I've been to 3 AutoX's now and I can't think of another way I'd rather spend a weekend. I need to get grippier tires and brakes though. Braking is kind vague and I slide everywhere but goddamnit I love my car.

I use Carbotech AX-6 pads on my autocross car and they are awesome! I have experienced EBC Yellow Stuff and Hawk HP+ and prefer the Carbotech pads by far.
Extreme initial bite from cold, better with heat and will boil your brake fluid before fading.
Actually not sure how hard you can push these pads. I've had my rotors glowing bright red and still had great performance from these pads.
Furthermore; unlike the EBC and Hawk pads, the Carbotech pads are very gentle on rotors and the brake dust isn't corrosive.
I buy mine here.

Combine these pads with SS braided brake lines and you'll be blown away by the difference. Just make sure you do both axles at the same time.

Upgrading to some decent tires is going to help the cars braking more than any brake pads would...

The Carbotech AX6 pads are specifically designed for autocross. Modulation is ridiculously easy. They also work great on the street and in the rain.
You are correct that HPS pads are fine but for autocross use the Carbotech pads are superior.
