UPDATES: What projects do you have underway currently?

Share with other Race Regulars your current project/s and/or how you're keeping warm. Pics are welcome also! This forum has just been too quiet this off season and thought it needed an injection of adrenalin and motivation for others!

Well, the biggies for our ITA 1st gen are rebuilding the transmission, as it's pretty much gone to hell. We also want to rebuild the LSD and do some troubleshooting on the brake system to reassure my dad that it wasn't his fault he kept locking the front right wheel which blew the tire after not too many laps. Oh, and install the new sway bars.

My 1st gen street car project... well, I need to finish the 2nd gen front subframe swap before anything else. Then I need to cobble together a Mustang live axle for the back to get a 5-lug bolt pattern all around. Then I need to get the engine built, rebuild one of the spare transmissions we have around, get a driveshaft made, paint the thing and start sorting things out. Various other stuff in there too; long term project.

Well lets see....
Tri-Point wide body kit in progess. Front fenders are on, driver side rear is "bolted" on. Waiting to get the following done so I can get the rear quaters welded.

Custom radiator install. Just got the misc hose fittings and alum tubing to make work. Great radiator and the price was worth waiting for the custom parts needed to make it work.

Still trying to shoe horn the 16x12's up front. Got the suspension out of the way, now just doing some tire trials. Changed from 25x12x16 to 23.5x11.5.16 to drop the car down more and allow a tad more flare to tire clearance.

My buddy at Bilstein has been working on the rear shock and spring combo.

Finished the lexan windshield and hatch a few months ago. Everything is bolted in and fits great. Only to be undone when the car gets painted. Nascar style rear plane spoiler added as well.

Next to do is the SS oil cooler hoses, I have all the part numbers sourced out to build the new lines. They need to be a tad longer with the custom radiator set up.

That's about it for now, quite a few other projects have been done thoughout the last year, but the car is coming along.

After that the car will be corner weighed and aligned so I can get my buddies alignment machine out of the garage.

Redoing a customers drift FC (yeah, I know it's not really race ) - it's going 20B NA for now.

His other daily driver is going to go twin T3's when the 20B is finished, and both cars will keep my busy at least through the summer.

That's about it for now.

Building my own front sway bar mounts. Replace some more suspension bushings. Degrease the bottom of the car from an oil leak I had. Get out and do some Geez testing on new tires.

Well Lets See....

We are adding to our stable of FC's. Just purchased a FC with a J-Port and 51 IDA. This car needs some TLC but has all the right bits. List of things to do on this car:

1) Replace hoses and foam in cell
2) Add AWR glass nose
3) Replace rear fascia
4) Rehang exhaust
5) Clean up radiator / oil cooler hoses
6) Reposition MSD Boxes
7) Interior Tunnel Repair
8) Paint and Body
9) Lots of small clean up details

On the car we ran last year we need to further upgrade the car to keep up. List for this FC:

1) Heat shield around exhaust
2) Programable Megasquirt fuel injection and tuning
3) Cold Air Box
4) Lexan side windows, ducting to transmission coolers
5) Add Posi
6) Adjustable brake Bias
7) JFZ brakes all around
8) Fibreglass hood
9) Remove stock front and rear bumper supports and replace with aluminum tube
10) Add additional sensors for on board data logging system
11) Replace braided lines to brakes
12) Repaint car to match sister car
13) Baffle pan and add Mazda Comp Oil Pressure regulator
14) Add Accusump and remote oil filter system

We have a third car we are slowly building up with spares from the other 2 cars, as well as a mid 80's Golf GTI that we need to assemble as a Lapping/ ITB car.

In other words we are going to be just lazing around.

Awaiting CCW wheels ... 17x9.5's, 18x10.5's
Test out new Kumho V710 tires ... 275/40 17's, 315/35 18's
Replacing shocks with Sachs-valved monotube shocks.
Lowering car and setting up new race alignment.

But, just not on an RX-7 ...

I'm relatively new to the road-racing scene, but I've got a GSL-SE that is sitting in my driveway causing the neighbors to light torches and simultaneously charge my house.

I'm still waiting to get my parts car so I can see what I need to buy. Otherwise, I need to go through the whole front end and replace bushings, bearings, etc. The suspension will need to be completely replaced, but that will have to wait for Uncle Sam to send me the money he owes me. The U-Joints sound like their shot, so I'll probably send the driveshaft to a machine shop to get them replaced. I've got to decide whether I'm going to fight with a weld-in cage, or just get a bolt-in. Also, need to ditch the sunroof and weld in a piece of steel, then paint the whole dang car. So, I pretty much need to do everything.

Anyone want to buy a nice piece of modern art?

I noticed in your sig that you hope to run IT some day with your GSL-SE.

Just to save you some headaches... a GSL-SE is classed in IT S where it is severely handicapped vs. the BMW's and even the 2nd Gen 7's. Before you invest too much into it, decide if you're willing to build a completely uncompetitive car. The SCCA doesn't allow an SE to run in ITA either, even if all of the SE parts have been swapped out.

yeah, good catch, it'd make a good track car, but not an IT racer.

Just finishing a RX3 coupe, will be running a 10A PP to run in the loacl under 2ltr class. Running in a track day this weekend to test out a few things with a borrowed 13B... which I hope survives The new motor will be finished in another 2 or 3 weeks (waiting for the 20B stationery gear to come back from being machined down to size).

Silkworm and Speed Raycer:

You guys are answering a question that I hadn't gotten around to asking. From what I could tell, the -SE was not going to be competitive in ITS, but I really didn't know how bad it would be.

At any rate, the car is being built primarily to run at No Problem Raceway in Louisiana (www.noproblemraceway.com). They have several bracket classes where it is pretty much "run-what-you-brung". It is a great way to go road racing without having to spend major bucks just to keep from getting lapped.

I don't post much in this section but I guess I should post more . Let's see whats going on in my life.

1. Trying to finish the GTUs with new motor in it so I can at least run 1/2 a season in Solo2.

2. Helping a buddy put a 13b-RE in his 73' 240z http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=31085

3. Helping another buddy with a motor install/microtech install. Motor is in car has fired just need one more day of clean and final assembly work <- first project to almost drop off my list.

4. Helping another buddy get his FD up and running but nothing major (motor is still going to stay in the engine bay)

5. And as always what ever work needs to be done on Kevin's (RarestRX) car

I've got the injectors out of the car and off for service. Hope to have the intake clean and emissions friendly before my birthday in March. I'm still deciding if I'm going to take the lower manifold off and clean the 5th and 6th port parts...
Need to replace the pads in th eback and the calipers in the front (dragging pads once in a while).
I'll be fixing or disabling the PS. It's pumping the fluid out more than through...
I WAS working on bushings...
Really more restoration than race prep but such is life in solo2 stock clss with an 18 year old car...

NASA SU car:

Stuff already done:
Entire suspension
Kaaz rearend
Chromemoly axles
Tri-Point widebody
Large street ported 20b w/ drysump
system located 4" back and 1-1/2"
down from stock location of 13b
That was all the easy stuff.

Still need to:
Lexan glass
Exhaust
Turbo
Fuel system/ fuel cell
ECU
Redo the cage/seats
Custom intake
Big brakes
Guru 5 speed with shifter relocated 4"
forward.
Find rims and tires (Carl?)
Mate RE Amemeya FC2000 front end
to Tri-Point flared fenders
Paint
Interior (yes an interior because it will
be a street car also )

And much, much more....

Hoping to have it ready for at least one race in the 2005 season. But I've said 'next season' for two or three years now

My turbo vert is currently waiting for a new turbo so I can get that on the road again which means the 20b car is on hold till around late March.

Yippee, my 500th post.
