Ultimate Fc

Ok so heres my plan: to build the ultimate fc. Now that I have decided to keep my car, I realized I could not live without it . I plan on getting a salvageable 13brew from an fd and rebuilding it to be reliable (at least as reliable as i can make a 13brew) and put down 360- 400 rwhp. Also plan on getting coilover suspension setup and completely srtipping the car of all vitals to reduce weight. For coilovers I am planning on going with the Tein ra. My goal is to make this car a touge MONSTER that will see frequent track/auto-x and maybe even some occasional drift. If i can get the swap done and done cleanly i may even open up a little shop on the side for anyone interested in such high performance tuning. What i listed is not even remotely close to everything that i will have to put into my car to make this work but so far its just my idea and i am starting to work everything out on paper. I probably wont even get started on this until summer but hey ya gotta start planning or else itll never happen. Let me know what you guys think and i am open to any suggestions you may have. No flaming though please I realize that this is a fairly ludicrous plan but I dont care. I really am serious about doing it and putting the countless hours and money into building it that it will undoubtedly take. So let the fun begin!

I dont think youre alone in wanting to build a monster of n RX7 and then even opening a shop to support others with the same ideals.

BUT not many guys get a good grip on the business end of the deal and also are able to build the car they want.

its huge money.

anyhow, while youre dreaming, are you going to widebody the FC?
will you install a rollbar or full cage?
gonna run aftermarket ignition like Haltech?

have fun making your shopping list!

If you want a HUGE TORQUE MONSTER you better start saving for a 20B.... as even pumped 13B's don't belt out boat loads of torque.

Sounds like a fun idea.... don't put yourself into major debt trying to get there. This is one way to do it.

Good luck,

Start with this, add 1500 hours, tens of thousands of dollars, endless prototyping, and fabrication, plan on a couple years part time, and you will have a car that will compete with fully sorted race cars that you can buy all day long for 20-30K. You have to LOVE the 7 to do this. The REW swap makes no sense at al. If you swap at all do a BRE. A well sorted BT will make 500rwhp, so save your money, and time for other things. Carl

That is the car putting the HURT on an '03 996TT, and an '03 ZO6. I passed them coming on to the front straight at Thunderhill, and with "only" ~350rwhp, a full weight FC did this. The car now has 25% more power, weighs ~10% less, has twice the tire, real dampers etc. The car was a well sorted street car, already singled, with stand alone engine management.

Here's the car today, see pages 1, 3, and the link to "tire girl" on page 5 for pictures. The body work is essentially custom, though derived from peices you might be able to source with a couple days research. Right now, I'd by John Weisbergs Nationally competitive EP Roller for 19000.00, and put a 13BRE in it with a 67DBB turbo .84 AR. Good luck, Carl

As far as where to compete, try SCCA Super Production (read you are a back marker). I will run it in NASA Super Unlimited, and ITE, if I have enough cash left to bribe the regional Steward into letting it in Otherwise BP AX, although this car is built for road course work.

7to6, you have the same exact dream as I do, only I won't be able to start this summer, or the one after that, or the one after that, etc. Good luck.

Oh Carl, your FC is AMAZING man. Beautiful.

well i said TOUGE monster not torque monster. i am not sure yet if i am goin to widebody it or not. i am gonna install a cage and i am gona get a standalone. i want to do the rew because it is a rare swap and it is a stronger engine than a bt. plus if i get it done cleanly i can offer my services for this swap and have a killer car to showcase my work. i am working on compiling a complete list of initial parts planned on and will post it when done also will list approximate pricing. thanks for the input so far and keep it coming.

Engine components:
13brew- 500
Rebuild kit- 1375 this is for the Atkins kit. If there is a better one out there let me know
Front Mount Intercooler- about 3000 for rotary extreme monster v mount
Upgrade fuel system- let me know what you guys think is the best way to go on this
Clutch- 534 for ACT extreme race
Downpipe- 169 for corksport
Standalone- APEX power fc- 1150
Exhaust- APEX GT spec- 599
Oil cooler lines- 200
So far in the past twenty minutes or so that is the list that i have compiled for my initialy planned parts, for the engine at least. I say initialy planned because ill probably end up needing alot more once i get down to work and also alot of these parts are top of the line so that equals mucho money. Let me know what you guys think of this list so far it is still a work in progress and if you have any recommendations or evaluations of any parts or parts that i forgot please let me know. Thanks

what turbo do you plan to run? it will require a custom downpipe more likely than not.

With all do respect, you have little idea of the scope of the project. If you like, you can call me at 707-696-2705, on a weekend(FREE), and I will go over it with you. Carl

weird, all u guys want a 20b when a 13b has so much potential, yeah i woudllove a 20b but lets be realistic and it really is on how much u wanna spend,i think with a13b its more than enuff.its not always about torque

Yep.. I have a modestly modded FC, and I have an easy $10k into it. **** adds up real quick.

Just turbo'ing my car + new motor + standalone doing it right has cost me 7K, and thats not even 'modded' its alot of parts put together, probly another 4k before the power aspecrt is done correctly, then its to suspension/road handling

Its more about reliabilty than power potential ( well most the time ). Can you get 500RWHP from a 13B.. of course. Will it last very long? Nope. The larger displacement 20B can make the same amount of power, without stressing the engine nearly as much. Plus you will have a much larger poweband and torque curve than a large single 13B.

Carl i believe you are right. i dont quite realize the full scope of this project yet but i also believe that that will be the fun part as this project goes on over time. I really am only shooting at 360-400 rwhp or so. nothing too crazy just enough to be extremely fast on the back roads and track. I really want this car to be a balance between power and handling. I started today by stripping the interior. I dont yet know what turbo i am gonna run so again any recommendations on a good setup to run are welcome. I want something that will realize full boost quickly though so i am not really looking at building a monster turbo or anything

You really have no idea what you're talking about...

Pushing 500hp on a 13B is about it's limited.
600hp on a 20B is barely breaking a sweat.
700hp on a 20B is just getting a workout.
900hp is when a 20B is starting to feel a little stress like a 500hp 13B is.

If it's not about the torque, why are V8's so popular?
Do you mean you don't care about acceleration?
Torque = acceleration.

Ok i have been sucked in by the allure of a 20b instead of a 13brew. damn the money just keeps adding up. looks like itll take a lot longer now to get this project done. suspension and what not first while i save and stockpile for the 20b swap. I love my car though and itll all be worth it in the end.

The amount of $$$ you guys drop into your rotaries is boggling. It is almost painful to watch.
