TWR Rx-7 - who knows anything about it?

The other day I came across these two pictures of the TWR Rx-7 Racecar.

The tail looks funky, as the thread title say: Who knows about this thing?

That was the long tail built for LeMans; I think it was 1984.

The first car is Rx7-253, designed by Takuya Yura. It was from 1980 or 1981. Had a 13b engine, 48IDA Weber carbs. I have an article about it in a Japanese design magazine from the 80's, but I can't read it worth my ***.

except from RX-7: Mazda's Rotary Engine Sportscar, pg 166. The second (that says "Jun" on the front) one appears to be car #38. Apparently the #38 Le Mans car was run as #45 for at least '81 Silverstone 6 hour race.
