Transponder

I'm looking for Transponders for my Spec-7... Neither Jegs nor Summit had anything when searching with the keyword, "Transponder"...

I found some after googling... It appears that there's one major manufacturer of them, AMB... Are there any others? An difference between them or are they all the same?

Aren't the transponders usually purchsed or rented from the sanctioning body you run with?

I bought my last one directly from AMB. http://www.amb-it.com/modules/index2...D=8&systemID=3

I've seen some dealers for AMB but I'm not sure where the best price is.

Occasionally the SCCA regions will make group buys on the transponders to try and get a few bucks off, but it's usually not that much. Central Fla. region did this, IIRC.

Email the Spec-7 list and ask them. A search of the IT forum at http://www.improvedtouring.com/ may also get you some results.

Let us know what you find.

check you GCR, it will tell you the specific model you need, just about every if not every sanctioning body uses AMB. Unfortuantly it is not the cheaper small one, that is for karts and RC stuff. AMB is the only compnay that makes anything like that so they have a true menopoly on the market. You are going to pay about the same where ever you go give or take $10. Even on eBay used ones went for 285-300, new youre looking at around $325 for the hardwired one, thingk the rechargeable one is $350ish. I got mine locally from Pegusus Racing Supplies, teh gentelmen that sold it to me said that they have to order 500 of them at a time to get a discount, he says they make about $5 on each one they sell, AMB really has everyone by the nutz.

Pegasus sells them, I saw them in their catalog yesterday. I bought mine from the Oregon Region of the SCCA years ago when I bought mine.

Pele, buy the transponder that you wire to the cars electrical system. Forgeting to charge the other type may suck if you forget to charge it.

Have Fun ; )
