I've run the Toyo RA-1s for three years now and they are a fine tire. If I wanted to win I'd really be tempted to try the Hoosiers, but if money matters, then the Toyos are a good bet. The RA-1's stick well, have a long wear life (for a competition tire) and don't seem to harden up as bad as some other tires.

RA-1 has great heat cycles and will come back alive better than Hoosier's. For the money it is hard to beat. For most I think 375lb. front and 225ib. rear. I don't know about auto cross.

I get one season out of 8 tires. I run in an endurance series with 6 2 hour mini-enduros and about another 2.5 hours of track time per race weekend. After six events my tires are all pooched. For spring rates, I'm running 400 lbs in the front and 175 in the rear. We are a spec series, so only the stock sway bar allowed and no tri-link or panhard in the rear so we try to make the roll resistance up with spring rate in the front. If you can put in a larger front sway bard I'd do it and go softer in the front spring rate and firmer in the rear.
hope this helps
