Team White Lightning wins 24 Hours of LeMons Fall South

Congratulations to the RX-7 team "White Lightning" for both winning the race overall and also for winning the People's Curse Anyone from the team representing here on the board? I was driving for the rbankracing "Aborted from Jets" SAAB 900 turbo but our race went quite the opposite from yours. Great job and look forward to mixing it up with you guys next time!

Much as we'd like to see an Omni win a LeMons race, we're still pretty happy that a team has won both People's Curse and overall win in the same race!

Yes, the White Lightning Mazda RX-7 took the overall win by two laps over the Lightning McQueen Volkswagen Jetta, just hours after being spared the People's Curse. We're busy packing up the LeMons circus right now, but I'll try to get some more posts done once things calm down. Congratulations, White Lightning!

It says it right on the People's Curse ballots: Don't vote to crush a car just because it's ahead of you! Still, that's what happened today; the White Lightning RX-7 got the most votes.

Not only that, the second-place Lightning McQueen Jetta got the second-most Curse votes. Now, the People's Curse really is a democracy, so the Mazda was going to get destroyed... unless the people could be persuaded to issue a pardon to the super-clean-driving, not-very-cheaty (and perhaps even totally legit) RX-7.

So, LeMons Chief Perp Jay Lamm appealed to the crowd for mercy on the wrongly accused White Lightning car, and the thumbs-up votes overwhelmed the highly vocal thumbs-down faction. Of course, some car needs to get crushed, and we had three volunteers: the Torqueless Rotards RX-7 (which flipped over yesterday), a head-gasket-challenged BMW E30, and a bedless Ford Ranger.

So White Lightning is back out on the track, and the Lightning McQueen Jetta is a couple laps back. When will the VW make its move? Will the Molde Carlo Chevy get past both? We'll find out!

Cool! I love the "let's make it a faux-convertible" approach - makes cage installation easier.

We are looking at a potential entry for next year - it's a Mazda, but not a rotary. We'll see if it comes together.

Sweet, good luck with your preparations. It's a lot of hard work and racing crapcans can be a real emotional rollercoaster but all told it's terrific fun. Keep us posted and maybe I'll see you in the spring

LOL That had me rolling! Is this how the environment at these events really go? That's hilarious!

How do I apply to race in one of these? I have a team already...

Yep, that's exactly the type of environment at these events. After tech inspection, every car goes through a mandatory "BS" inspection. The judges (wearing black capes and white wigs) go over your car and determine how much you've cheated (suspension, engine swaps, turbos, homemade mods, etc.). Cheating is allowed and judges can be bribed with alcohol, cash, or other goods. Your car gets a "bribed" stencil spray painted on if that's the case ;P Teams are assessed penalty laps based on how much they're cheating.

Everything you need to know to register, prepare for, and fail miserably at an event is on their website and forums.
