Suggestions and tips on fitting side seals.

I did a searh in a few forums and did not find anything that I would consider reputable. I am gettin ready for a rebuild in an ITS engine and have a pretty decent idea how to do this. My only hang up is in fitting the side seals. Do any of you have a good tip, trick, or technique in how to do this. Mainly, what do you gents use to file away at the side seal. Thanks everyone!

Also, any good clearance aside from what is given in the FSM?
