Steering rack, for the track?

I removed my power steering rack, and have the car completely stripped out. it is going to be race only, so.... is there a steering rack out of another car that will feel better, or perform better? I'd prefer staying non-power. I was going to get a 86 manual rack. I think that was the one with better feel?

But, I was thinking.... I wonder if any others will fit / feel good. Any experience? Thanks!

we need a little more information.

what kind of racing?
by mentioning 86 i assume this is an FC we are discussing?
do you still have the 3 hole power steering rack with you?
by feel do you mean steering ratio? or the end play vs. center "feel"?

there are three FC steering racks.

the manual is something like 20:1 ratio.

the 86-88, and 89-90 upper model Power rack is 15:1

and the 90-92 base rack, is 17:1

basically non power they are all going to be about the same effort, but the different ratios mean that they will respond differently.

IMO the 20:1 manual rack is really slow, you need to move your hands really fast, and i'm too lazy.

the 15:1 rack is too fast, you need to make really small movements with your hands.

the 17:1 rack (FC01 sticker), is my favorite, its got a really natural response.

Thanks j9fd3s!

I'll look for the 17:1 rack!

I do still have the rack that came with my 88 GXL. I also have the pump, brackets, etc.

I've read about depowering it, but I'd rather sell it, and just find a cheap 17:1.
