Solo II - carpet

To stay legal in Street Modified, which part of the carpet needs to stay OEM? I'm taking it out to dye in another color, and I'm sure that acquiring stuff like sound damping material will be next to impossible from Mazda.

I'm going to call the dealership tomorrow to see if carpet is still available, but I'm guessing it'll have to be imported which equals $$$.

TIA

The sound dampening material is molded into the carpet. There was a company in San Diego that did a group buy on a molded carpet for the FD. Look for pics of it in 3rd gen section if interested in that sort of info.

Just got off the phone with Mazda.

There's 1 carpet left in the country that fits my description, and it was priced at $1,700. The guy on the phone wasn't sure it was even really there.

Do you mean this? https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/carpet-gb-anyone-interested-850238/

I don't know if that's legal in my class. It's not OEM.

I could be wrong, but I thought you were allowed to strip everything from the front seats back.

I think that's just the rear seats.

I know a guy running no truck carpet in an FSP scirocco... I'm pretty sure you can get rid of it. I couldn't find a rule that specified it though.

Yes TFEnt.

Do you really think they are going to bust your chops for carpet? I'd probably ask on the SCCA forums or your regional directory before spending the cash. Assuming you haven't already...

I was given the suggestion to take the factory carpet (compressed in a box) with me to National caliber events to show that the replacement is heavier than the original, just in case.

In any case, I'm waiting for a response from the SEB before I commit to the project. It'll probably be at least a week before I get a response (holidays). Right now, I'm between starting over from scratch or repairing what I have. I would rather start fresh.

I'll be working on other stuff in the meantime.

--edit--

I am aware of protests against what's under the carpet (e.g. noise dampening material), but unsure about the floor mat itself.

Got a response back. A ticket was opened for the SEB.

If the answer was definitely no, would I have been told right off the bat?
