FOR SALE ITEMS IN THE RACE SECTION

We're going to have to do something about For Sale items in this section. The rules for the rest of the forum are that anything for sale goes in the For Sale section; end of story. I've bent the rules for the Race section because I realize the racer guys tend to have/want some unique items that don't appeal to anyone but other racers, but we need to do something as the number of items for sale here has been increasing and cluttering the Race section. IMO many of the ads don't belong in the Race section at all because there is nothing making them unique to the racers.

I figure I can do a few things:

1) No for sale items permitted in the race section at all; just like the rest of the forum. All for sale items are allowed only in the classifieds section.

2) You may have one active ad at a time posted in the Race section and people are welcome to ask questions but thread bumping is absolutely prohibited. If I even suspect you're trying to skirt this by having "friends" ask questions I'll move or close the thread. You won't be allowed to complain because the rules say we shouldn't have for sale items in the Race section anyway.

3) Any ad posted in the Race section that I don't feel has really unique racer value I will immediately move to the proper For Sale section. No redirect, no nothing. Moved. You won't be allowed to complain because the rules say we shouldn't have for sale items here anyway. (This is essentially what I have been doing already)

If 2 or 3 become too much work I'm left with number 1. You won't be allowed to complain because the rules say we shouldn't have for sale items here anyway.

I'm not mad or upset about any of this; it's not some form of punishment. We don't want this section to turn into another classifieds section so I need to do something now. You guys have any thoughts? This isn't up for vote, but you have the opportunity to plead your case

Thanks.

How about a "classified section" for the race car tech forum. ?
Lots of other parts of the forum has it allready.

I will always be very hard to convince that we need additional sections of any kind. We already have classified sections that are model specific, one for wheels and tires and another general one for items that fit neither. No need for more IMO even if it is a "race" part.

I could understand not wanting to have a bunch of different sections for blinkers, wheel bearings and underbody neon, but no race-specific classifieds section? That's seems pretty dumb. If there's a wheel and tire section, and regional sections, why not something that racers/performance driving folks can peer in on? I don't pay any attention to the general classifieds, just the Texas regional, and if there was a race section I'd be all up on that, too.

Damon I like choice 2. If you can handle the hastle. I for one feel you have been more than kind allowing the ads that you have. I think the ads should be limited to "significant" items and not say a "48 IDA Weber intake". Damon you're the mod you make the rules.....

Chris you would be amazed what you can find in the first gen for sale section. For instance I recently picked up a brand new set of Mazdatrix/RB SS brake lines for my 85 model for 1/2 price.

How about a SUB catagory in the race car tech for classifieds, similar to the "Race Techniques" sub catagory. I think that would be a good. But if not your #2 idea seems fair.

And while where on this, could we have the autoproune stop at like page 4 or something.. getting tired of searching for threads as they disapear after 2 pages.

Thanks.

I also like the idea of a seperate "For Sale/WTB" section for racing parts. (I know, I know, it's more work for the mod) There are some things that racers want and need that the average Joe doesn't. Not many of the average guys are looking for spliters, poly carbonate back hatches, etc (IE parts that are not stock). I think most of the racers would embrace a WTB section and probably get more help by having the section here as opposed to the main classified section. Damon, I know this is not "your fault or problem" but the national classified section has gotten so clogged with every kid trying to part out his hunk in the back yard and bump it three times a day to keep his ad up top. I don't even go there any more. I don't want that here either so it would mean more work for you or adding another mod. I will look at the South Classifieds because I know the stuff is near me and I don't have to go through three pages of bumps to find what I want because everything falls so fast. Keith does a great job of keeping the guys in check in that section also. You asked for my opinion!!!!

Damon, just throwing out ideas here: What about a Sticky'd FS Thread at the top of this forum? Any new FS threads that deal with non-racer items will be immediately moved to the general classified area. But any racer-specific items would be added as a new post to that thread. Obvious downside to this is that all responses (questions and answers) would need to be taken to PMs (to keep the thread clean). Plus, it'd probably be a little more work for you as the mod. But this would allow the racer-specific parts to remain in the race section, without creating a new forum, and without cluttering the existing forum too badly.

Otherwise, I obviously like option 2 and 3. It's nice to be able to find race-parts without having to sift through the general classified stuff.

I like this idea. It doesn't clutter the race section, doesn't add another new forum and yet gets the goal accomplished. Downside is that we would have only 1 thread so each for sale item would be a single post within that thread so all questions would have to go through email or PM to keep the thread from going crazy. You can easily search within the thread for a certain item but it shouldn't be bad as the only items listed should be currently for sale. I would delete the post when the item is sold if the seller lets me know.

The sticky would have some rules so it doesn't get cluttered but I think it would work well. I think this is what should be done unless somebody has some good reasons not to?

I like the idea of a sub-section, but the sticky would be fine otherwise...

Glad to hear that I can still come up with decent ideas every once in a while

Just another quick thought: you'll probably have sellers that neglect to let you know when an item has sold. For this reason, you may want to also implement an expiration date (i.e. the posts will be deleted after ~60-90 days). If the seller still hasn't sold the item in that time, they can either request more time from you, or just re-list their item.
