RX-7 Clutch Type Limited Slip Rebuild Parts and Service
New to the site. I got in trade what appears to be a clutch type RX-7 Limited Slip unit. Is there anyone in the community who knows someone who rebuilds these units? Has access to the clutch packs? If the rebuilder is located in the Chicago area great. If elsewhere I can ship. Torsen went out so thinking of maybe having this one rebuilt.
I guess I did attach the wrong pic's. I cant find the correct ones on the desktop so I will need to get some pics tomorrow of that diff. Please check in tomorrow night or Tuesday. Thanks for pointing out the error.
These are the correct pics to replace the 2 I initially attached. The RX-7 unit was installed into a Miata cast iron carrier (not by me) for use in a Miata. I would like to have it gone through before installing it. From what I understand its similar to a Gikin which is rebuildable/tunable. Any help identifying it and recommending someone familiar with rebuilding it would be very much appreciated.
Assume it's an earlier stock rough cast rx7 diff rather than the larger one in the FC/FD, if installed in a mx5 housing? Biggest problem with them, not many plates and they wear out very fast. Almost sure Racing Beat had the plates back several years ago, but can't see anything online there now......could be totally off there though!
If no Mazda people nearby and you can find an old school Datsun/Nissan, (preferably rally) specialist, they'd do it in their sleep and probably have the parts too. The maker of those diffs (Fuji something or other??) probably supplied all Japanese manufacturers
Billyboy it is in a Miata housing. I got like this as I traded a guy who wanted an open diff to weld and put into a drift missile miata. I want to have it gone through as he may have beat the crap out of it. If possible I would like to tune it for max lock -up as its not going into a street car but a dedicated autocross car. Trying to see if its worth rebuilding this or just going with either another Torsen or Gikin.

otherwise any old-school drivetrain shop that actually offers rebuild services should be able to handle it. Seems like there must be some in the windy city.
.
TeamRX8 thank you for the information you sent regarding Mark B and miataboxes. He sounds to be the person I am looking for. I see that he also rebuilds and modifies Torsen units so I might have 2 either/or options. I will try to reach out to him at the address you provided. Thanks again.
Scott, I contacted Jesse a few years ago about it and he didn't have much to say about it regarding rebuilding it. I do like the AFCO's I got from him for my car.

Times must have changed since then. In his weekly shop tour he shows pallets full of diff he has rebuilt.
Good dude though. He saved my racing season in 2021
The other place I would recommend is www.santafegarage.com. They build the ones I use. David Long machines a solid crush sleeve for every build and can set the preload on the clutch pack to what ever you want.

Thanks for the additional leads. I will look into them. Maybe reach out to Jesse again. Now that I know that Torsens can be rebuilt that may open up some options and may be the easier way to go.
