Road racing w/ automatic

Does anyone on here do it? and if so are there any tricks/tips?

I'm trying to start something for a friend of mine so he can get into road racing, but his situation calls for an automatic.

That and there's a lady with a 355 or 360 Ferrari Challenge car that's hand controls and an auto as I recall, out here in cali. I don't think legality is an issue, although you'd want to check your sanctioning body's rules for specifics. However, getting an auto to work well roadracing is a far different question, and one I really don't have any experience with, sorry. My concerns are abrupt downshifts and upshifts midcorner. Some of the newer dual clutch manumatics sound promising for this though.

There was a very fast older guy in an NSX that used to do HPDE with PDA (now NASA) in the North East. The NSX was either automatic or had some kind of hand controls.
