Red or Black 3rd gens. at Thunder Hill on the 14th

Anybody on here at Thunder Hill on the 14th with there car on Saturday? Think the red car was # 17, and looks like you can make it around the track a WHOLE lot faster than me. Nice driving.

That was me in the red car. Thanks for the nice words!

We only had four sessions that day, and a pretty crowded group, but I was able to get some clear space during the last two times out and had a lot of fun.

I wanted to get out to Thunderhill before the summer heat sets in and you can't run more than a couple of laps without your temperature rising.

I saw your silver car in the paddock just once in the afternoon but didn't get a chance to stop by.

Were you there running in a group?

Wasn't running, just looking. Need to get my car tuned before I can take it out again, hopefully before it gets to hot out, also in the market for different springs and struts. Looks like you have your car set up very well, you were hanging with that Viper quite well in the afternoon. What suspension are you running, and where did you get that roll-bar, it looks like it fits perfectly! BTW are you out of the bay area or local? I live 20 minutes from the track.

Going to try for thunder hill next month if my car's tuned, I'll let you know when. I'm 2hrs north of sac so don't run around there too much. Who'd doing your engine work?

Matt,

20 minutes from the track is pretty sweet. I'm in the East Bay, so I had to get up at 5 AM to get to the 7:30 drivers meeting.

I have GAB Super-R shocks and the M2 coilover kit with the 550/450 (I think) springs. The rollbar is the one M2 was selling. Fits nicely, but the NASA tech guy just told me the harness mounting points were too far from the seat and should be less than 8" away.

It was interesting to see what the new Viper could do out on the track. I did pass him, but only because he spun it in a turn. Can't do much against 500 HP on the straights, though.

Marcus,

Nice pictures, thanks for the link!

I saw you behind me when we were waiting on the grid. I was wondering if you were an instuctor, racer, or just a student. Then we had our yellow flag lemming parade laps (according to Steve the group leader). Glad I didn't try to warm my tires...let the other guy get yelled at.

I've raced for a bit over a year, I was in HPDE breaking in the new motor. Are you running the June 25/26 date?

FWIW, Steve was right, scrubbing is of very little use, and is dangerous if everyone is not in sync.

Were you on R compounds?

I'll probably skip the June dates unless we get a wave of cool weather around that time. I'd spend too much time running half-throttle down the front straight to keep the temps down.

I was running an odd combination of R compound tires: Victoracers on the fronts and RA-1s on the rears. The weekend before this event I cut one of my Rear Kumhos at Buttonwillow, on the inner sidewall. The Tire shop there didn't stock Kumhos so I got the Toyos. All four tires are unshaved, and the fronts were brand new. I was thinking about changing the fronts or rears to match and hang on to the others for the next set, but the balance seems pretty good so far.
