Really tough wheel studs?
Hey racers! I am building a big project, and my first gen is running wide and sticky tires. Last year I ran with the stock lugs, but this year I'm currently doing the brakes on my GSL-SE and want to put in something stronger while I'm right there ( the thought of a wheel falling off scares me for some reason) I know the stock ones are pretty good, but I've search for better. I only found a ARP set, with the same thread size and pitch, but they lack the non-threaded portion at the shank of the bolt. So my question to you Auto-X and road racers is-
Do you know of any good very strong studs made for the GSL-SE? I think the size is 12mm x 1.5 pitch. Read my sig. if you want to know what kind of stress I'm putting the car through. Thanks!!

I'm not clear, what's non threaded on the stock stud? You have the knurl, and threads, at least on the 2nd gen. I run ARP on mine, work great.

I'll look at mine tonight when I get home, but don't forget that you have a bunch of the stud covered by the rotor, and then the wheel itself, I don't think even a centimeter is going to be a problem. I'll post a pic of my ARPs and we'll compare tonight.

I used 3" hardened studs from SpeedSource. They are on a FC, but theey may have FB studs as well.
If you want to find something local, your local NAPA may have the same knurl and thread and pitch that you need, it just may be for another application. Just bring in your stud and they s/b able to match it up. It will be even easier if you are going to buy new nuts, as then the thread and pitch will be a non issue.

Ok, I just looked at the ARP stud, it's the stud designed for Late Model GM cars (they use the same stud pitch and knurl), they're 2 1/8" long threads, overall length of 2 3/4" with the knurl and the backing plate.
GTO, these studs have threads starting right after the knurl. Maybe you have a different application?

Yeah I saw those ARP's at.....dont laugh...JEGS. I didnt know for sure if I need the unthreaded portion, but after looking twice I'm just going to buy the ARP's. To bad I have to cut each and every one down, as they are too long and my hub adapters wont fit over anything longer than stock. Oh well, time to break out the chain saw! ( J/K of course, I'm very professional and only use top notch plastic sissors) Thanks for all the help.
