Race Report: SCCA SFR Thunderhill Raceway Races #1 & 2

This past weekend was the season opener for the San Francisco SCCA Region. I ran my 1993 FD in the ITE Class of Group 1. I qualified my car 3rd overall (1st in ITE) for Saturday's race and finished 4th overall (2nd in ITE). I qualified 2nd overall (1st in ITE) for Sunday's race and finished 2nd overall (winning the ITE race).

A long list of upgrades has resulting in a very stable, very fast car, which is nearly 5 seconds per lap faster than last year! I have race video from this past weekend, but frankly it's a little dull to watch. Here is a video of qualifying for Saturday's race. Enjoy!

This should be a fun season.

Guy,
Glad those upgrades are working well However it takes more than good parts to shave 5 seconds

Vid wasn't boring to me.

Nice job and when I see driver turning the opposite direction the majority of the time I know he's at the limit. Good stuff

Is ShipNout and Blackey still running this year? What's the field like? It seems to me the only area growing at our local NASA events is TT which is actually becoming competitive with lots of racers or former racers competing.

Hi Fritz,

Yes, Shpnout and Blackey are planning on running this year. Shpnout travels for work and will be running in events later in the summer. Blackey is in the process of a complete refresh of his car, however he currently is experiencing some labor issues as he lost his head wrench to a new Grand-AM team. I expect to see him at the track in the near future. Word on the street is that he has a stroked and sleeved LS7 that should put out ~550 at the wheels.

Shpnout completed an engine replacement this winter and we tested at Infineon two weeks ago. He should be very fast when he runs this summer!

That was a great weekend. I was hoping to watch your Sunday race but I was exhausted and left.

I managed to complete my SMT and ITA race on Sat and my SMT race on Sunday and got my provisional license signed off. Racing and qualifying for 2 races Fri and Sat was tiring. but fun.

Greetings from Guam. Great job to both you guys last weekend. Guy thanks for the daily race reports.

For those that care, Guy worked his *** off on that car over the winter. He deserves those 5 second improvments.

I can't wait to get out there and race our "spec" third gens. On a side note our Infinion test day was with half a dozen Ferrari Challenge cars. THAT was interesting. Rich guys spec miata.
