Race Exhaust

Hey gang,

I am currently looking at replacing parts of the exhaust on the track car and am looking for thoughts and opinions.

My current setup is a Racing beat 2-into-1 header, the matching RB pre-silencer and a CorkSport single exhaust.

The problem is that it is just too loud. Like bleeding-ears loud. Turn-down pipes just ain't gonna cut it - I can't pass sound at the track. Right now I'm having to use the CorkSport silencer insert to get things down to a reasonable level and it's just killing my power.

I've been thinking of replacing the CorkSport with another canister, possibly a 3-inch Magnaflow or one of the RB units. Does anyone have a good suggestion on how to approach this?

Thanks,

-b

What sound level are you trying to make?

I think you know that is not the best exhaust setup posted above. FWIW, there was a true dual RB header for $50 or the ISC stainless header for $125 on another forum recently, not mine but a super steal and worth grabbing if in the budget (and still available) . ISC used the Magnaflow muffler in their setup.

I have a 3" RB universal presilencer collecting dust with only one weekend on it. It has a couple inches of 3" pipe welded on both ends. The welds are nasty, someone else welded it for me. I'll make you a deal if you want (too lazy to ever post stuff for sale) - http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset....rtnumber=16435 Also believe I have a 2-1 collector setup for 3" exhaust. They RB presilencer should work, in fact with the RB presilencer and a Magnaflow I never had problems, that was with the Mazdaspeed header. I had another RB presilencer that I tore up off track, thus the reason for the one above before I went to the full ISC exhaust.

Correction to my last post: Replace Magnaflow with Dynomax Ultra Flo. I don't know what I was thinking, both my setup and the ISC one uses the Dynomax. I have a non RX-7 street car with a Magnaflow.

I use a 2.5" mandrel bend single exhaust custom made by my cage guy, into a magnaflow. It's loud. Without a helmet, it's ear bleeding loud I pass 106db OK, but 92db at Laguna, forget it. I've been asked to not come back to some private track days cause my car is too loud (sheesh cry me a river, those private track day guys can be pr**ks)

I'd agree with the presilencer, I don't think simply swapping out the muffler is going to be enough.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm looking at some options right now - everything from the drastic (replace everything from the header back) to more incremental (replace the RB race-pipe or the Corksport, see if it's enough, later, rinse, repeat).

Sound level at VIR is 103dB. Not sure about others in the area.

in my experience, id say the CS muffler is louder than just pipe

actually lol, a couple FC's ago i had an n1 dual, and it made no difference weather it was actually bolted to the cat or not, as far as noise
