I've been looking for something to offer some decent heat protection under the hood for wiring. The criteria:

Some reasonable amount of heat protection.
Not outlandishly expensive.
Doesn't require removing harness to install.

One of the most promising candidates so far:
HRP World Thermal Sleeves

This stuff can be wrapped on wiring and velcro'd.

Any better ideas?

Looks like adequate protection.

The stuff at HRP world is still looking better to me, as it uses velcro to close rather than adhesive. Easier to move around if you don't get it right, and reusable should you need to repair/replace wiring.

we use the stuff that you can get from banzaitoyota, its this weird silicony tape stuff.

the selling point: thru a mistake we had the engine harness routed ON the hotside of the turbo, and the banzai wrap kept the harness intact.

Here are some more options from McMaster-Carr

They have aluminum covered convoluted tubing. The same stuff you can buy at Radio Shack and many auto parts stores.

The claimed heat resistance is 257f. Not as good as other covers, but certainly better than stock. The claimed temperature resistance seems a little low, as other products are similar but claim higher ratings.

This stuff is about $3.00 per ft. for 3/4 inch material, quite a bit less than others.

I just bought a bunch of this stuff...check out the website all kinds of heat sleeving. I especially like the silicone tape I used for the engine harness over the downpipe.

I purchased two rolls of DEI Cool Tape and it was more than enough for my 87 TII. I re-wrapped my harness with new loom, vinyl tape, then put this over it. Seems to hold up nice for me.

88 Turbo II. Look at the hotside of the turbo. First, I have a turbo heat blanket. Then I have Thermo-tec heat tape around the engine harness near the downpipe and hotside. Then on top of the harness I have wiring loom. The loom is mostly there because the heat tape is ugly.
