I have been using a Weber carb downdraft intake on my PP for the last 7 or 8 years. There are FI throttle bodies that are the same bolt pattern as the Weber, so they will bolt right onto PP intake manifolds. Intake system length is important on my PP motors; forget about using any street Mazda FI stuff.
The race ones I saw back in the IMSA days (late '80s and early '90s) used flat slides for throttles.

look at this throttle body, it was made to bolt right onto the Weber IDA manifolds that are very popular on PP motors:

I seen a bug eyed sprite at an auto-x event a few years ago that had a 3 rotor na running the TEC III engine managment with 3 throttle bodies......it was sweet and very fast. and yes it was a Peripheral!!
