Oil leak Help Needed Please!!

Just got off the track at Sebring............and I need some oil leak HELP!!!

I've got some type of leak occuring on my FD, especially when tracking it. After a session I've got quite a bit of smoke coming from under my hood, and the entire area on the passenger side is an oily mess. In other words, the entire area in the neighborhood of the oil filter, and obviously the oil is all over the hot engine causing the smoke. After the car sits for a bit I'd easily say there's 5 tablespoons or so collected under the car.

There was a guy there that is a rotary mechanic and he took one look and said, "Yep, I've seen that a lot". It's caused by the oil sloshing around and it's coming out the overflow tubes in the filler neck area. I really can't figure where those tubes are (can't see 'em) and if that even makes sense. He said, "After your car gets about 3/4 of a quart low it'll stop." Well, it pretty much did. But then as I was leaving today I added about 2/3 of a quart to make the drive home, which was about 1 1/2 hours and just typical highway stuff; no high g turns, and when I got home I once again had some smoke from under the hood. It's almost like I've got some back pressure forcing oil up and out somewhere relatively high on the engine for it to be all over that area around the oil filter, including slightly higher than the filter itself.

One other factor is that this engine is newly rebuilt and I never expienced this before the rebuild. Obviously my guy is good for it but he can't find the leak as of yet either.

TIA.

David

If you do not have a catch can with a breather, that is your problem. Your car is fine , search oil catch can in the 3rd gen section. Carl
FWIW a JAZ can with a K&N filter can be had for ~40.00 also try Summit. no need to get a Greddy etc.

Thanks Carl. What's causing this to happen BTW? The only difference with the "before and after" situation is that during the rebuild I had a mild streetport done to it and also went to an APEXI CAI.

Could this have caused the new symptom.............I don't really understand what's causing the oil spitting.

Thanks.

Also, I'm about to do the search you mentioned, but in case I don't find it where do you buy they JAZ / K and N combo you mentioned; i.e. do people readily sell FD oil catch cans or are they generic.

Tks.
