Need tips

Hey all, this is my first post in this part of the forum. I'm going to be racing in an autocrossing even taking place in the city that I live in. Its mostly an open event race. The guy doing it all said its going to be mostly going around cones and all that turning. He said I will be lucky to hit 60. Since this will be my first autocrossing race I was wondering if anybody has any tips. Heres a link of the event I'm participating: http://www.spady.com/MotorsportMile/

Thanks for any help.

Nick

Like I said to the other guy..

Just go do it! Seat time seat time seat time.. That's important. The driver is 80% of the speed of the car. Get rides with other people in your class (super stock).. Ask someone else to ride with you if you can.. Ride with as many people as you can.

Tips? Slow down. Seriously. The slower you go, the faster you'll be.. Funny isn't it.. Everyone wants to just go ***** out their first few times.. Use the brakes, get the car slowed for the corner, the speed will come with time. Don't expect to set FTD (fastest time of the day), you won't. Hell, I doubt you'll win your class. That's not important. Go have fun. Trust me.

Yeah, go check out the other thread on this forum. I posted a list of top ten tips from a national Solo II champion. And regarding speed, well .. if your looking at your speedometer, you ain't racing fast. Auto-x is so mentally fast, that you literally don't have time to look at your speedo. Typically, you'll never get out of second gear (you'll drop back into first ... but third gear, nah.)

And times ... hell, you'll be lucky to place in SS in your first few events. I'd say run novice class and then go ride with the fast guys in SS. See how they drive and learn how they position their cars through the course.

Yeah, I've read about most of all this you guys are talking about in the handbook. It really stresses seat time is a big help. So, I'll see how I do and go from there. Thanks for the help.
