Need more headroom for your helmet? Low profile helmet!
I was at a race shop today trying out some seats and helmets and I saw a low profile helmet that looked about half an inch lower at the top. So I picked up 2 of them.
I also have an Arai Corsair V motorcycle helmet for comparison so you can see its lower profile.
Honestly those with a sunroof need to save on the headroom whenever possible. Lowering the seat and pulling cushions has been an option on the race seats. Is may just be something to think about when choosing a helmet.

I have a Touring model and my seat is basically on the ground and this low profile helmet looks like it might work out well.

The car I was racing at the time was an FD with a sunroof and it does help. You can't be tall and wear any helmet in an FD with a sunroof. You end up leaning the seat back to a less than optimal driving position.
If you plan to seriously race an FD I highly recommend getting a car without a sunroof. That inch to an inch and a half of extra headroom makes all the difference. It's difficult after the fact I know.
Another option is to cut the roof off and put an R1 roof on the car. They are available still from Mazda. The expense is more in the paint than doing the actual roof. Might be only option for some with headroom issues and a built car.

I enjoy my sunroof and only plan on tracking the car 2-3 times a year. I'm not that tall so the hjc helmet should work.
On my racecar I simply had a body guy weld the sunroof panel to the roof (he used some channel steel as well on the inside to ensure it was solid). A little body filler and some paint and from the outside it looks like it never was a sunroof car. I'd think this is a much easier option than changing the entire roof?
On the FC the roof profile is not different between the two other than the big hole for the sunroof.... maybe the FD is different?
