Need Help On Trans
i have a non turbo trans. and i have replaced inputshaft bearing twice already. i take the to the track and always distroying the bearing. is there a modified or better bearings or hardened gears i can install to make the trans last for long time. what do you racing guys do to the trans?
check the pilot bearing on the crank(e-shaft) and also check the input shaft to pilot bearing alignment. if the pilot bearing is worn or the alignment is bad it may put extra stress on the input shaft bearing and wear it prematurely. also might try a better bearing than the OEM(try local bearing shop with sample). else swap to the turbo trans or a pure race trans. good luck
check your motor mounts. they go bad a lot on rx's and when your engine tourqes itself with bad mounts it will put excessive force on the imput shaft first causing the bearing to go and then blowing the teeth off the gears.

it could be but it wouldnt be my first thought. the na trans isn't as much of a weak leak as people say. i would expect to see problems with the diff before the trans with to much power being the issue. i would say check the mounts. see if the engine will rock back and forth. any time it does will cause the imput shaft to flex putting pressure on the bearing first.
I would begin by considering if the input shaft is bent, then make certain you're installing that bearing properly by driving the inner and outer races together.
I'd then take a worn out bearing, cut it apart, and look at the wear pattern. Then you'd have an idea if it's too much thrust, misalignment, etc.

It's the other way around.
Trans will not tolerate over 200 at the wheels very long.
The diff has been used on V8 conversions and drag racing (although I think it's more luck than anything else).
Think about it...
How big are the gears in the transmission?
How large are the ring and pinion gears in the diff?
150 shot is like DOUBLING the power it would normally handle.

thanks for all the replies. addition to the trans problem. i already have solid motor, trans and diff mounts. im wondering making all solid mounts can affect the trans. i have just replaced the input shaft and bearing again for the 3rd time. its already making noise. im going to try a turbo 2 trans this time and see how that goes. thanks again!!!
