Need cheap helmet

Going drag racing for the first time in a couple of weeks and I need a helmet.

According to the track, I need a helmet that meets SFI 31.2 or Snell 90. However, at this point, I'm not looking to spend $250-$300 for a helmet.

Anyone have any cheap suggestions?

Remember your head is worth what your helmet is worth.

Point taken and thanks for the great site, but I still want to go cheap at this point.

I'm not too concerned about getting into an accident at the drag strip with my close to stock FD. I'm not active in any racing right now and probably won't be for a while. Just wanted a helmet for the drags on the 21st.

maxpesce: Well, actually I'm running up at Sacramento. Besides, my head is probably a small (no comments... ), not a large. Thanks for the offer though.

ratedR1: thanks for the link, they have prices more in line with what I was thinking.

racerwholesale.com has a good selection and several that are inexpensive.
Don't buy a Snell 90 helmet as that will likely be out of date within a year or two.
I got my Snell 95 open-faced HJC for $95 from a cycle shop.
You should at least try some on at your local motorcycle shop. The wrong size can be uncomfortable AND dangerous.

aighhh!, too much money SleepR1!

I'll get a good helmet when/if I decide to start road racing the car.

BTW, I got a M2R (cycle) helmet for under $100 that is Snell 2000 rated. Good enough for drag racing a couple of times in my close to stock car.

Thanks for the help everyone.

you can get a g-force helmet from jegs thats SA2000 approved for $150. And being SA2000, you can race anywhere with it.

Closed face so you dont eat steering wheel! And if your helmet is fire proof it adds to fire protection. I'm going to order a Bieffe F1 my self.
