More Progress! Cage is done!!!
A few weeks ago, I got excited when I dropped my ITS car off for a new roll cage. Well, the excitement doubled when I got the car back home. I am actually enjoying stripping the interior of all the remaining insulation adhesive! I must be ill !!!
Check it out:

The tubing is 1.75" x .095" wall DOM tubing. I sent the fabricator 90 ft. of tubing, but with drops he probably used between 75-80 feet. If you figure that the tubing weighs in at 1.75 lbs/ft, the cage should weigh around 150 lbs. counting the mounting plates.
I weigh about 200 lbs. so I figure I should come in about right on weight. A friend of mine with a lesser cage had to add 70 lbs. of ballast and he weighs about 230 lbs. I don't think I will be too bad off.
Besides, a man with a wife and two kids has more important things to think about than just weight!

Wow, I'm actually surprised it weighs so little. I guess it's the .095 wall that saves you. I thought SCCA required a thicker wall, like .120 or more?
I'm sort of confused by the purpose of some of the tubes. Like the one that runs front to back right under the sunroof. Both of them go to the middle of another tube, and are unsupported. Is there a rule that requires that bar to be there if you have a sunroof?
I'm sure the cage will do it's job, it looks very well done. But let hope it never has to.

IT rules for our cars: 1.5 x .120 or 1.75x.095. I'm running 1.75x.120, it's what we had on hand..
Yeah, like how he's going to afford to go racing!!!!!!

You had a link to your website posted somewhere before, but I forget. Would you mind posting the link?
Dammit.. I am way too obsessed with race cars... this post actually made me think about putting a cage like that in my street car
lol... oh well... I guess a normal full-on 8 point will do...
lol... (see, I'm obsessed!)

Chris' cage is well beyond the minimum required tubing, but it seems to me that he's triagulated all of the tubes for strength and rigidity, which is a good thing. You don't have to build your cage this complex, but it certainly doesn't hurt (other than weight, and our cars tend to be too light after you strip all the non race stuff off them anyway.)
