heh, yep cwaters you hit the nail on the head.... heres my dad's weekend in a nutshell

on the practice day friday.... new Rotary Performance motor and rebuilt LSD ran great. ran all sessions to find out about Toyo tire pressures.

Saturday (qualifying): for the first time ever, my dad goes out and puts in on the POLE in the first qualifying. we were so happy. (remember that was a moist session). Then second qualifying... dry session my dad did not expect to keep the pole, and was only beat by our buddy and legend Brian Zalner, which put my dad in 2nd! it was excellent.

Sunday (Race): on the front row next to brian at the start, held onto second and stuck with brian and pulled a nice lead from 3rd. THEN... about lap 9, the water temp and oil temp goes a little bit above normal and the car just wont pull above 6k. i was radioed in with him and i was hearing "This motor wont pull dammit!" and "Im screwed." so he decided to do the smart thing and back off a little, shift to 5th on the straight until the temps went down. then the motor started pullin again, unfortunately too far into the race, and he ended up in 5th, which shouldnt be a dissapointment, but was because he shoulda been 2nd. he said 1 one lap and he coulda got at least 3rd place back.

now what do you guys think... its obviously a cooling problem. we're gonna check thermostat, we know coolant was full, belt tension maybe, clutch fan doesnt do any good above 40mph, does anyone else have any ideas?

oh, and could old plugs do that? cuz we had OOOLLLLDDD plugs in. the other thing i was thinkin was the plug heat range. the ones he had in were NGK BR8EQ14... we have BR7EQ14 which are a little cooler. hmm... i guess we'll have to test.
