I need to setup a custom fuel door, help me out

I have been struggling with solving the problem of filling fuel into my street cars fuel cell.

My first attempt involved modifying a poly tank, but I have scrapped this idea entirely, as it seemed unsafe and I didnt like the look.

im switching to a metal tank, mounted near flush with the rear hatch area.

Im thinking of replacing the drivers-side rear quarter window with molded piece of carbon fiber and a fuel filler.

I got the mounting and carbon stuff figured out, but I cant find any universal/racing (street pump compatable) fuel doors.

My options are to use the fuel cap from the fuel cell, or the stock 82 fuel filler.

I remember seeing a V8 Monster-Miata at a dealership I worked at. It had a sweet latch locking fuel filler, But I cant find anything like that.

Since you've probably already got the filler neck from your car, I'd just use that. You should be able to find a cool looking chrome cap at an auto parts store (I'm sure vatozone has everything from chrome to fake carbon fiber to N-N-N-Neon!).

All late model Mitsubishis have cool fuel cover doors. Here is a Miata one. Try a google search.

I think this is what you're referring to. No idea where he got this door, I'm sure it came with his kit car, but you may be able to ask the owner. Otherwise search on Lemans Fuel Filler Cap on google.

thanks for the info.

silkworm, that was exactly what I was looking for.... But

I was looking at the car today, and I think Im just going to mound the filler right above the rear glass's latch, and have it under the window.;

Ill make a bracket and use the Fuel cell cap that I have.

Sparco makes a nice one, and I have it already adapted to the stock fuel filler size. Shoot me an email at cbyck@ybhc.com and I'll shoot you some pics. I'll sell it for a little less than new. It has never been installed. I was going to use it on my Widebody FC, but decided to fill it through the hatch since the car is track only. 707-696-2705 Carl
