high mileage FD bad idea for auto-xing?
high mileage FD bad idea for auto-xing?
Hi I have a '93 FD Touring with 111,000 miles. I drive it every other weekend or so and am planning to turn it into a strictly auto-x car. Would constant auto-xing be a bad idea for an FD with high mileage? Or should i buy a lower mileage FD for this purpose? Thanks alot.

Why would it be bad? Just make sure your suspension and brakes are in good shape. If you have ANY original suspension pieces (shocks, bushings), they are long overdue for replacement. Other than that, go for it.
You'll just get to the replacement point a little faster. My bushings have given up the ghost and and are crying for retirement. Toe links and trailing arms are creaking and groaning at me all the time. I'm at ~114K miles ... and between me and the original owner, this car has been auto-x'ed for a majority of its life. So maybe I wouldn't have had to do this for another 30-40K miles if the car wasn't auto-x'ed so much .... oh well.
Few things to keep in mind..
Keep atleast 1/4 of a tank when racing,
try to keep it cool during this summer heat (ie. Fan Mod, Water Wetter)
Stock IC heatsoaks easily, other than that, no problemo ~ go kick ****

I've experienced fuel starvation at slightly above 1/2 tank. Keep it full if you can. Prevents the fuel from sloshing around.

I have NEVER had fuel starvation in my FD even at 1/8 tank at the Streets of Willow Springs and approx 1/4 at Buttonwillow (full track) BUT I only run w/ street tires so this may only be a problem w/ RACE tires that let you corner at over 1g
