General Drag Racing question...

Hi, rx7forum noobie here...

well, as you guys can see in my siggy, i got myself a Jeep Grand Cherokee. i've been modding and tunning it for a while now. anyways, i've been noticing that my tranny isn't quite holding up like it used to so im not hitting times quite as quick as my 14.9 @ 90... i take it back, it's probably not the tranny itself, but rather a component. it's taking too long to shift and i havn't been able to get into the 14's lately.

well, here's my question: what does it mean that when you run and hit, say a 15.2 @ 89.999mph (like i did in that particular run) then you go back and run again and hit a 15.2 @ 79.899mph. this happened to me the last time i was at the tracks. it COMPLETLY doesnt make sence because i have a automatic transmission so the trap shouldnt differ so much. but 10mph difference is hillarious! i frequent the jeepsunlimited.com forums for jeep questions, but the guys over there didnt seem to have answers (they ARE jeeps, can you blame em?) lol i figured race car tech would be the best place to post this Q. mods - if you feel that i can get more effective feedback elsewhere, please move this thread to that forum...well hope you can help me out. TIA

If I were to take a WAG, you may have problems with the tranny, heat may be causing slippage in the tranny, especially if you hooked hard on the launch (explaining why you still managed a 15.2)

I'll leave the wisdom of drag racing an SUV alone

hey, hey! lol

i know its probably NOT smart to race SUV's... but im trying to pull something different here! lol be a little more creative! hehe nah, i plan to buy an rx7 soon, but till then im loving my jeep!

i doubt its my tranny because my tranny can withstand upto 450hp. i heard somewhere on the jeep forums that it's the same tranny used in the latest gen. supras. it's pretty strong and it holds up to alot. i have reason to believe its my shifts takeing too long. also i have ALOT of torque ~ aprox. 360-380 lb/ft worth. so maybe depending on my launch i get more torque to the ground..... eh i dunno. lol any ideas?

btw - the potential of the engine in my jeep is AMAZING. i have videos of a jeep hitting low -mid 12's and the guy can still stroke his engine and inject some 200shot of n2o... he just hasnt done those mods just yet. he'll easily get into 10's after that! seriously whats more cooler - a jeep hitting 11's or a sports car hitting 10's? just my .02
