Yeah, yeah. I'm hoping to get a 2:18-2:20 out of her. Need to feel it out, new car with a rear engine- it's gonna be weird However, the guy I bought it from set it up nicely. PSS9 coilovers with upgraded sways, chip, exhaust and a few other goodies. Puts down decent power, not RX7 pwr, but enough. I have plans for this sucka....no worries 3.8 or 4.0 ltr
Then next year I'm going to start to take some junk out and get the weight down to 2750 and I should be able to get my times back down to a 2:13-2:14, but we'll see. I'm going to do the PCA club racing next year with Ram.
I see a GT3 in your future...come to the dark side...
I'll call you tom at work and we'll catch up.

Hey Mahjik!
Yeah, I found it on Autotrader about a month ago in St. Louis. There is a really great deal on rennlist right now for a 96 993 with a ton of mods for mid 30's

I'm not sure if I'm keeping the FD or not. If its up to the other half, its will be gone once its running. We'll see.
Once again, NICE CAR!

Vid is up.
It's titled: BMW VIR F 9-06 Dropping The Hammer on a 993 hehe..... this is a tiny glimpes into the future for Pat. To add insult to injury I was carrying a 240lb ballast in the shape of a corner worker named Pete. Notice the first lap I'm just chillen behind the 993 it's about a 2.16 and then I break off a 2.12 on him
FWIW it's worth that's one of the fastest 993s I see that's fully sorted with a good driver.

Ha. ha... Pat's loss is my gain. Techno's in the hizzouse!
I guess I need to make a pilgrimage to the Fritz Flynn home for wayward FD's and see what else I can pirate.
Pat, the 911 will probably make you a better driver. These cars are so good (FD's), that you don't have to make up for anything with actual skill. Also, there's no downside to being in the PCA. Great Club.

"These cars are so good" mmmm mmmm mmmmmm you can say that again However if you think an FD is easy to drive get into an EVO or most any sports car made in the last 5 years even a Porsche
Pete,
Come on down.
Although I don't think I have anything you don't already have lol.
Your ride is pretty well sorted out.

(tear) Damn Pete, I thought the Technos looked good on my car! Looking good.
Well Fritz, while your wrenching on your FD between sessions I'll be drinking water relaxing in a nice lounge chair .
Don't you worry your pretty little head I have big plans for this motor. Muwhhaaaaaaaa
Oh BTW that's an older 911/930 turbo with torsen bars. The 993 has a much better suspension, like 25 years newer!

OUch you sure know how to hit a fella where it hurts
However not so fast with the lounge chair picture cause you'll be laying on the pea gravel helping my sorry ***.
Yep you're right that car is an older turbo 911. Damn you'll be even slower hehe. Now I just need to change the vid title so I'm not looking like the damn fool that I am. You've probably seen that car at the track. The plate is 911 Dr. Hell he'll probably be there this weekend.
You had better have some LARGE *** plans cause trix are for kids and I'm BRINGING some hard hitten shizzle in the spring. 14 PSI with fresh 285 HOO HOOs with a newly rebuilt BBK and most likely a new engine lol. **** it I may have to get some new coilovers to hang with all that hardware you'll have lol.

Still driving Gene's old ride but I've detuned it a bit w/ stock wheels and brakes. However it's about 75lbs lighter

Fritz, I'm confused regarding your choice of going back to stock calipers. Didn't Gene have APs on that car? It seems like you want to save weight but is this the smartest way to go? I still have the stockers but now I have put in some duct work to help with cooling the rotors. I doubt it will suffice. Get back to me on the crappy Wilwoods.

FWIW I used the Wilwoods on my car and I thought they were great. I also drove Gene's old car with the AP's and really didn't feel a difference.
Fritz needed new rotors for the AP's and I think one caliper was leaking.
Fritz, lemme give you a little taste...
* Stroker crank with 80.0mm stroke to give 3999.5cc on 103mm bore.
* Lightweight steel rods.
* Revised 103mm piston to suit extra stroke.
* Billet steel hollow race camshafts, extra lift on intake, superfinished lobes.
* Billet steel followers, special coating to eliminate wear, revised geometry for 15mm (0.600) lift on the intake valve.
* Revised valve spring/retainer to suit additional lift.
* Carbon/CNC alloy throttle body set with airbox.
Obviously all of the above will be designed to get the best from the 9m/4T billet cylinder head, but it is definitely as far as we plan to develop the aircooled engine. Based on current power levels from the race 3.8, we think that a totally reliable 440-450bhp is possible, although the complementing idea behind the 4.0 litre is to be able to achieve 100bhp/litre in engines that can be comfortably be used on the road. --Data from ninemeister-- in other words GT3 power levels

Basically the Wilwoods are fine if you have the Thermlock piston upgrade.
I went with the stock brakes because my rotors needed to be turned and I also had atleast 2 sets of stock wheels w/ tires I needed to burn through along w/ some pads. Definitely didn't do it thinking I'd be faster however running a 2.12 with a 240lb passenger and old A32s means this car is no slouch on stockers
The stock brakes are fine with stock wheels but when you're wearing some big sticky tires they barely last a weekend no matter how well they're ducted etc.... Obviously everything is relative to speed/rwhp so YMMV.

^^ I hope so, but the FSR guy hasn't got back with me. He needed my PCA membership number. Hopefully I can make it down if not only for one day- Monday full course is what I'm thinking. Or I'll have to wait for Car Guys next month.
Renesisfury, I don't want to turbo charge this car. I have been fooling w/ turbos for quite a while. They are fun no question, but heat at high boost will kill your car on the track. I'll stick with a NA car. You don't Porsche racing their turbo cars do you?
In all honesty if I can turn a sub 2:14 times at VIR, and I'm sure I can in this car it's gonna best fast enough for me...well for a while.
Nice video Fritz!

Pat, Fritz,
All this talk is making me wish I wasn't back in school and winter wasn't approaching!
I'm going to have a few tricks in the till over the winter too, so I think the '07 track season ought to be a good one. We should all hit VIR for PCA first settlers in May.

Good point patfat. Just to me it seems that you would be better off running a moderate turbo and moderate boost rather than just sledgehammering the engine with a huge snail and 20+ psi.

Are you guys doing the December Chin/Tracquest event? I was thinking about it--assuming I get my car back together correctly and it doesn't blow up again.
Didn't it almost snow on you guys last year?
I was also thinking about the Audi event but I don't want to go through the rigamarole of joining their club and paying for annual membership.

^^ I'll be at the TracQuest event. I love that event and those guys. I might flex the FC that weekend...we'll see. Or maybe I'll rent a FD from some crazy fool in c-ville
