It runs!!!

Since I have not received the 99 Toda Intake cam gear yet, it's only running off of the crank 36-2 which is loosing sync at about 2800 rpm as you can see in the video. I have adjusted the gap and played a bit with R56. Next thing is checking to see if I ran the ground and 12V backwards perhaps on the VR sensor.

It actually is pretty quite for 4" exhaust and a straight through muffler. I have tuned the fuel a bit since this video and adjusted the timing so it idles pretty well at 1300 rpm, but I do need to fix the sync loss.

Oh and the turbo spins for about 45seconds after you turn the engine off. Pretty darn sweet I must say!

Enjoy the video:

Congratulations!!

Awesome :icon_tup:!!! The moment I had been waiting for . Sounds good, and the flame action is cool!

Thank you! Got the ignition all sorted out. The crank pickup needed a pull-up resistor. Now it revs well. i will get a better video with a proper camera!

This is one of the best builds on the forums. Have considered doing this to my track FC such a great engine, and in this chassis it seems perfect!

abeomid 01-16-14 10:30 AM

Thank you!
It's a strong engine. People argue the head design is ancient, which is true. However the 99 and up head are much better with the port work and intake port having a straight run to the camber instead of the earlier curved engines. The combination of that and the latest turbo technology can be great. We will find out on the dyno and then on the track. I mean with such a light chassis my HP goal is probably a bit overkill (well more than just a bit). But the saying is the older you get, the more power you need :)

Awesome! Please be sure to post your dyno pulls and your first drive. Your build is a true master piece, you have put major effort and work into your RX7.

Tem120 01-17-14 09:47 AM

Awesome man!

abeomid 01-17-14 10:34 AM

Thanks! I might actually dyno it on an engine dyno that we had prepared for rotaries previously. At least I have an adapter plate behind it.

Here is a video with the ignition all fixed:

Never too much horsepower ;).

You know better then anybody else what your head needs are for your particular build and it all makes sense to use the 99 head for better flow and an added turbo...awesome.

S4 Vert 01-19-14 08:36 PM

Sounds excellent! This is WELL overdo for you and your RX7, I am looking forward to more .

abeomid 01-20-14 11:08 PM

Thank you! It's relieving, but there is still much more work left. Lots of little things. But I see the light at the end of the tunnel!

abeomid 01-26-14 01:09 PM

The valve cover is painted and and cam sensor is mounted. Will have to wire up today and hopefully the sequential/COP will work!

abeomid 01-27-14 10:51 PM

It runs amazing with the COP and full sequential. Jumps to 5000 rpm like nothing. Time to finish the rest of it and get it on the track!

Electrical wiring

What is the relay interface box you are utilizing in your high curent wiring and the control panel?
Cheers :-)

abeomid 06-02-15 07:44 PM

1 Attachment(s)
I have since changed it since it was a chinese cheap relay board and stopped working intermittently.

Currently I have a Bussmann relay box in there and loving it. High quality stuff and managed to get the connectors and pins for a professional wiring!

I have been pretty busy having started my own business. There has been significant work on the car including upright and suspension design. However I haven't had time to make any posts and document much aside from instagram. Hoping to add more info about it and updates soon!

Love your car. Hope the work load gives you some free time soon to update us with your project.
