First drag day with the RX6
First drag day with the RX6
Well...
My first time out at the strip went fairly well by my standards. I got to run about 8 times and had a blast.
The car felt great and loved the weather (never cracked 89C on the PFC water temp).
And I got to race a really nice 240sx that was about dead even with me (he beat me by 3/10ths after upping the boost). I could've raced him all night. Great guy too.
Anyway, advice and comments are welcome. My best time is below:
RT .7199
60 2.2636
1/8 ET 8.5285
1/8 MPH 89.75
1/4 ET 12.9338
1/4 MPH 112.92
I redlighted once. I know the car is capable of more. My father-in-law ran a 12.6xxx at 113.x, so it was better even tonight.
Fun stuff the drags are.

A few comments:
*your 60' time sucks bad.
What size/kind of tires are you running and what pressure?
*what boost levels are you running? It looks from your trap speed like you are only running 12-13 lbs?
*What were the track temps?
*even with the above comments, you are still way faster than me...
BTW, please list all your mods.

What's a good 60-ft., BTW? Good for a street car, not a purpose-built dragger.

Pineapple street port, DP, MP, Exhaust
Apexi RX6
850cc X 4 inj
Pulley kit
Tokico 5-ways (set to soft, soft, soft)
GReddy SMIC
CWR Oil Coolers
RP fuel pump
Trying to think if anything else is relavent...
Thanks for the comments! My goal is to get to the mid/high 12s consistantly on street tires. It's possible to do I think, I just have to work on my launch and then work on being consistant.

You should be running right around 2.0 60' times with street tires I'd guess. 1.8 sec would be really good, but you would probobly need some stickier tires for that. Put on some drag slicks and you could probobly see 1.6sec 60' times. Just guessing here, but hopefully thats reasonable accurate

The heat might account for the low trap speeds. The only time I have been to the drag strip, I was getting 2.16-2.19 60' times on stock size Dunlop SP8000s, pressure was lowered to about 25 psi (didn't want to go down to far as there was NO air at the track or the nearby gas stations...
This was with a downpipe and cat-back -- 240 rwhp.
And yes, I suck at drag racing. It's too bad practicing is so hard on your car...

But my 60' times were all much worse than yours. His was 2.02 I believe. So pretty darn good.
The wheelspin is a bit of a problem too, but not as bad as I'd thought it would be.

I have not been to an actual strip yet but competed in a ProSolo last month where you start side by side from a christmas tree. My first ever reaction time was 1.0 something
Don't know if it's true everywhere but our lights were such a way that a perfect reaction time is .500
I cut a few .500's and a .600 later. And our stage lane was downhill! Talk about level of difficulty
But it was fun beating the Vettes out of the hole and into the first corner.

Well, the car was getting faster by the end of the night when temps had dropped (I'm guessing) at least 10 degrees. Our fastest run (my father-in-law's 12.6) was the last run of the night.

With a good launch, your car should run mid-to-low 12's easy. Couple of things .... (1) the T1-S's are actually hurting you. They have fairly stiff sidewalls, so they don't flex enough to get 'good' traction from a dead stop; hence the spin. I wouldn't change them, but, if you really want to get good times ... tires are going to help. (2) The Greddy SMIC gets heat-soaked pretty quick. Bring a water sprayer (kinda like what I do at auto-x's) and keep the IC cooled. Serious guys will actually use a couple bags of ice. (3) Whaddya waiting for? Crank up the boost .... you're tuned for 16psi; no sense in not using it.At any rate, great time for your first time out. You'll get better. Maybe when there's a lull in the auto-x/TT season, I'll join you for a couple runs.
