I saw an indicated 160+ on the straight at Summit Point once. From the passenger seat of Cam Worth's 3 rotor it was pretty exciting. (the fun part was passing 3 cars in the braking zone).
And I agree with Brad, hope to see you on track there this summer.

Yeah, I was surprised too. I did a couple of events at Summit before going to VIR in this car for the first time, and I was expecting that I would be getting higher speeds on the back straight at VIR than the front straight at Summit. Not so...
It has to do with the turns leading onto the straights. At Summit, you come onto a very long straight from a very fast, straightforward corner. No real complexity there. The front straight at VIR is really a constant turn, coming out of hog pen, which is a fast complex, but not the fastest section in my car (the car is constantly rotating the entire time through, so it keeps me on my toes with the throttle). If I were more aggressive through hog pen, I am sure I would hit a higher top speed than I have on the front straight, but I still don't see it matching the front straight at Summit. Summit's front straight really is straight...
As for the back straight at VIR, just think oak tree. Then it is not surprising that the front straight turns out to be faster. And that is easy to forget, until you hit the track!
So if you think about it, it really isn't that surprising that the "faster" straight is Summit, given the car.
And as for the speeds in general, to reiterate yet again, 2600lb wet with 400hp. Pretty obvious now, yes?

To get back on topic (once again), we have 4 people "signed up" for these backing plates. We just need one more person, and we have an order. For those who are in on it, I heard back from Nick about the setups that you guys told me you intend to run the plates with, and he can make the plates for all of them, no problem.
Minor request - anyone who has questions on the setup of my car or speeds on track, please PM me and don't add further clutter to this post! This thread is supposed to be about brake ducts for the FD, as the subject implies.

At VIR Full, the front straight top speed is about 5-10mph faster than the back straight. I don't look at straightaway speeds often, it's about cornering and exit speed anyway.

I agree. That is about the difference I see between the two straights as well.
I am a "twisty" kind of guy also - not very interested in the straight-line stuff! I have the most fun keeping at the limit on the corners. That's where the adrenaline is! The straights are breaks, good for a quick rest of the muscles, checking gauges, etc.

So he is going to deal with each of us ordering the plates individually, as far as collecting money, getting shipping information, getting any necessary details for fitment, etc. He needs names, daytime phone numbers, and shipping addresses for all of us.
I am supposed to email him all of this information, then he is going to calculate shipping for each of us, and get back to each of us individually with a quote. Then we can send in our money separately, and in the meantime, he will make the plates. I guess there have been some other inquiries for FD backing plates too, so he is going to make note of this purchase on his website for anyone who happens along.
So if you guys who are in on this want to PM me your name, shipping address, and phone number, I can send this info off to Nick and get the ball rolling.

What kind of lap times do you guys turn anyway (VIR North and full... and what the heck, SP and any other tracks you've been on)???!?

That's news to me - I asked about material in my last email to Nick, but I haven't heard back from him yet. Seems consensus is that he knows what he's doing, so I assume he has good reason...

I just installed the old aluminum ones on my car (soon to be someone else's car) and took photos. I would like to post a "how-to", because I was furious there was no instructions...small details like...YOU NEED A 36mm SOCKET WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And a nice Grinder to shave down a steal knuckle!!!!! How about some air tools to remove the hub!

Here are the ones that i built for mine (pics are test fitted) One of the big issues to me was making them removable/installable without taking the whole damned hub apart. Hey BB, or Bill...you guys going to VIR in Feb? Looks like i might make it out of the desert in time to go now.....

Where did you get the hosing from? The aluminum expandable hosing I bought from Home Depot doesn't hold up too well.
