In case anybody is wondering

The undercoating in a 79 RX7 weighs 19lbs. Dry ice is definetly the way to go if you need to remove this stuff

Um, not to be picky or anything, but that's the sound deadening tar, not the undercoating. The undercoating is on the bottom of the car on the outside, hence "under".

Not to be picky but undercoating is under the paint, hence "under"....as in primer.

If you are bored my ITA car needs it removed as well
Since I've got to find away to lose 100lbs...
(When are you planning on having your car finished? What are you racing this year?)

I have some dry ice left over. It's yours if you want it. Hopefully the car will be done by July. I'll probably do some NASA stuff this year HPDE? TT? The car is being built to EP specs. The only thing I won't have this year is the cell. NASA will let me run with the stock tank on DOT tires. The cage should be done by mid April. The list is long to get it on track. Hopefully it works out that I can run a couple events this year.

Nice! I'm pretty far off form actually doing the tar on my ITA car. Long story but but I'll likely be re-tubbing it after running a test day...

Bos- nothing that interesting

Do you remember me tearing up the front end during the 25 hours?
before shot: http://www.shedracing.net/Thill25hour05/CIMG0846.jpg
after shot: http://www.shedracing.net/Thill25hour05/Im000310.jpg

Note the missing valence and destroyed fenders.

The carnage:
http://images.miller-motorsports.com/links/ITAframe

look at pics 57 and 59. They show it the best.
I had a near miss with one of the pro Miatas around midnight, and ended up running off on the outside of turn 2.
I was flying, (had just set our fastest lap of the race), when he went brain dead, and put two off driver's left on entry to 2 trying to go around me. I had committed, so it was either let him tag me square in the driver's side door, or back out and widen my turn...
I blew it, and slid off sideways at full bore. I took a trip through the pasture, out beyond where they quit mowing. There is a serious gully out there and I think I did it then... I launch ed the car about 3 feet in the air, and landed hard.

In other news, here is a shot of the rod end that was holding our 3rd link in...

Sorry for the hijack Eric
Marcus

Yikes Marcus - I see what you mean. I sent a shell to the crusher last year that was lots better than that!!!

With the exception of the cost of the cage, shells are cheap.

Yeah. I'm still mulling what to do with this one.
I've got:
My pro7 car
this ITA car
a spare shell
and a bunch of spare parts.

We'll see...

BUILD ANOTHER ONE! After all, you'll end up letting your brother, the mailman, or somebody else driving your current backup car, so you'll need another anyway. That way you can have the frame fixed on that one "as time permits" which means it's cheaper (whether you do it yourself or have somebody else do it for you).

My EP car still looks nothing like an EP car, though it finally does look like it's on its way there. Maybe when I can afford the steel for the rollcage I'll dream about finishing it...

So let me get this straight, you use the dry ice to cool the beer as you beat the crap out of the sound deading with a hammer?
