Best race series??

What do you all feel the best racing series is out there for: Someone that is just getting into racing...not necessarily for the long term, but able to grow with the competitiveness (sp?) of the series.. also one that does not require thousands of dollars in equipment to be competitive, but more driver skill..

The only one i could think of is Spec Miata.. is anyone in it? and can you give any advice about the series..or any others close to it..Thanks!

your in PA with me and my dad. im not sure how long of a haul it would be to Summit Point, but it sounds like SRX7 is what your looking for. right now, with miata growing like a disease, srx7's are very easy to find for sale for cheap (well prepared cars im talking). all cars are more or less the same (spec tire, plugs, blah blah blah, etc etc). srx7 races at Summit as their main track, Watkins Glen once, and VIR (which is a haul for everyone). the group of guys cant get any better. everyone is willing to lend a hand and at the end of the day theres always a "sit around the fire and talk and drink" party. the first race of the season is in the end of April (friday practice day, saturday qual., sunday race), you should come down just to observe... hang out with the boys, get a feel of it.

its one of the cheapest classes in DC region SCCA, and one of the most fun from what i hear. most people new to the class are hesistant to make an appearance with the main group of guys for some reason. they will be more than willing to talk to you and introduce you to the class and the rules and anything else you have questions about.

How much do the SRX7's go for? also were can you find them? Do you know the average cost per race for the series..more or less how much would it cost to run a season? And where is the best place to find more info on the series?

What part of PA are you from?

Spec Miata is a good class, Spec RX-7 is defiintely a good cheap way to get your feet wet. I think SM is on the way up in numbers whereas Spec7 is declining out here in Cali.

Either of those, or even IT are good classes to begin with. ITS is kinda pricey, but a good ITB/C car is usually very cheap to get as well.

we're from near Allentown.

ok, now the first year is always a bitch considering you need a car, trailer.... plus hotel fees, entry fees, parts, etc. for a first year of SRX7 it will probably be 10-15k depending on the car and what you need to do to it. after the first season, it wont be nearly that much tho. right now, you can pick up a fully prepared SRX7 for anywhere between 3-5k believe it or not. heres 2 of the SRX7 sites made by fellow drivers of the DC region where you might be able to find cars for sale...

if you have any questions on cars you see or consider, as me. i will know the history of them like who drove them and how they did, stuff like that. ive been around these cars for 2 seasons i might know which ones were in accidents, etc.
