Bad coilover experiences anyone?

Looking for bad coilover experiences from the gallery.

Specifically: durability, service and/or rebuild issues. I want to get an idea of the ones to stay away from out there, since pricing ranges all over the board for even the ones with pillow mounts.

Can I get away with a sub $1K set, like Megan Racing or Ksport?

Real experiences vs. hearsay would be most helpful.

Thanks.

i'd stay away from the cheaper teins (basic and SS). not personal experience, but a good friend of mine had the basic coilovers on his integra, and the shocks blew out in about a year of only street use.

on the other hand, another friend has had the same set of tein HAs on his S14, and has done countless autoxs, trackdays, and driftdays, and they are still up to the task. its been at least 3 years, never rebuilt.

I have the Tein REs, which are a bit pricier. The build quality and dampener dynamics are pretty awesome. Way better than the GroundControl/Koni setups and probably a notch below the big guns (JRZ, Penskes, etc) in my experience.

I am not sure of the megans as I have not personally used them but I hear good things.

You can't go wrong with the Ksports. I have sold hundreds of these kits to many race teams, auto-x drivers and drifters and so far all have held up great for over 2 years now. Customers have got lower spring rates to extremely high and nothing has failed as of yet.

Only time we have had to replace a coilover was when a customer got into an accident with a direct hit onto the fender section.

Teins of course are good quality in my opinion but there are alot of other just as good options now available.

I was an authorized Tein dealer for 2 years and did not have any sets come back and not one complaint the whole time. I personally am looking into the K-Sport as they have gotten good reviews on all the forums I have found, and it seems to have all the features of the Tein Flex at almost half the price. Good luck with whatever you choose.
