Auto-X classing question (non-rx7)

I am helping my brother prepare his Subaru XT6 for autocross. We are in the process of swapping the broken hydrolic suspension for nearly equivalent gas shocks. The shocks needs springs to function but the only springs available (other than unfairly priced springs from the dealer) were "performance lowering springs" that he found on ebay. I have read the stock category rules and it says that the change from hydraulic shocks to gas shocks is allowed but I don't understand the small clause about springs. Will these springs bump him into HSP or will he still be able to run in HS?

this should cover all your questions. As I read the rules The stock springs and ONLY the unmodified stock springs may be used. Sorry

With the spring change you can also go into the STS/STU/STX type classes. When you are signing up let one of the folks running the event know what you've done and they can get you in the right class.

If you are setting this car up for autocrossing, you should read the rules carefully BEFORE you do anything. After reading the rules, you be able to decide what category you want to race in, and what mods will be allowable. A simple thing like changing springs will bump you into the street prepared category, even if you don't do any other mods.

i don't have a choice. I need to fix his suspension and these are the only springs available. The pnuematic suspension that comes on the car is completely BROKEN. There is no shock absorption and the car is undriveable. Looks like he'll be running in a higher class than he'd like. Oh well.

and we're not setting this car up for autocrossing, we are preparing the vehicle to be able to autocross. We're just trying to get it back on the road basically.
