Anyone use Harry's lap timer?
Anyone use Harry's lap timer?
App in the iTunes app store. Seems legit, anyone in here play with it any? For the price (not compared to "apps" but as a race device) it almost seems too good to be true. Like a 'golf caddy' for a race track.
Edit: tried posting link but didn't work as I am on the mobile version of this site, I'll post it when I get to my computer.

I've got it. Tried to use it at VIR and did something wrong as it didn't record the runs. Bunch of other guys at the event had it and worked for them so don't know what happened.
Documentation is pretty poor but other than that, looks good.

So it doesn't log it? Is that what you're saying? Or?
And did you buy the Tom Tom gps antenna thing? Seems like they are around $100 for those. But I don't see how they'd help your iphone without it actually being plugged into it. Anyone have any input on that?

I just bought and will test it out Tuesday. The Tom Tom is a separate blue tooth receiver with a faster clock so you get more sample rates from what I have read though, your phone should be fine for fairly accurate times.
I also bought a ram mount for my iPhone. This mount is awesome!

I do own the Tom Tom mount as my wife had given me the GPS app and the mount as a gift a while ago. I does have a built in GPS booster so that should help. As it was my first time at VIR when I tried this I was unsure if the Tom Tom mount would be allowed during session. Should have asked as it would have been. Could have also taken video with the Tom Tom mount.
All in all and assuming I can get it to work, it looks like a heck of an app. Lots of nice features.

we've been using the track addict HD for the iphone, its neat it overlays the data with the video, which up til now was the really complex part. not that it works for us, but you can plug a bluetooth into the OBD port and it'll use that data too.
the android one is Race chrono, i don't think it offers the video overlay.

I can't speak to that specific app, but as far as if apps like that function well in general, they do. I use trackmaster for Android. With the phones internal 1hz gps the error to the amb signal was .01-.05 sec, with a few in the .1 range. With qstarz 10hz external bluetooth antenna it is within .01.
I use racechrono2avi for my video overlays. Free, but horrid interface. There are other inexpensive good programs out there, though.

i got it and use a GPS booster and mount that it specifies.
We had a little trouble setting it up initially but it works now. the iphone surprisingly has great video with it and the overlays are neat.
the only thing that i don't get is why it only records each lap individually. maybe it's a setting thing. haven't really done all that much playing with it yet.

Just played with the laptimer yesterday at a test and tune. It's pretty cool. The alert feature was especially handy with only one person running the track. I didn't remember to play with the video, but the laptimer feature is very nice. I am messing around with exporting the laps to kml and reviewing inside Google Earth now. The track I was at was already in the Database. I look forward to testing out mapping my own track at an autocross and seeing how it performs there.
Lol damn I just got the iPhone 5 and the connector is completely different. And it's taller as well.. I wonder how long it's going up be before there is iPhone 5 stuff out there. I suppose there are other options out there as well as far as GPS holders go. Maybe a horizontal mount style... Hmm.. I'll look around a bit.
Thanks.
Thanks.
so I've been trying to find a good app for auto-x I was thinking of getting track master BUT heard it was kind of unreliable .
I've never used any of these apps before . So i'm very new to it all .
Anyone have any opinions ??
I was thinking of getting torque for the whole performance figures , and trackmaster for auto-x
if there is a one app to end them all kinda thing I'd love to know !

Last time at the track I used RaceChrono for android. I actually liked it a bit better than Trackmaster. Trackmaster still hasn't fixed their scaling issues on tablets, and it's been a year. Used with Qstarz BT gps with dgps enabled.
Ive been meaning to try the point-to-point feature on a local road.

Here is a link to a video for Harry's Laptimer being used at an auto-x event so it looks like it is possible:
And here is the website for Harry's:

To overlay video, you need the "Petrol Head" or above version

I use and it works very well http://www.rammount.com/newproducts/...8/default.aspx
I'll also add, that the iPhones internal GPS is just OK for autox. I just got an external Bluetooth GPS with higher refresh this Xmas to better map autox courses.

VBOX Sport - Racelogic USA Store
which I also just bought. I plan to use the VBOX with Harry's, as he recommends here
Compatibility
Note Harry recommends the RAM Mount on this same page.
I haven't had a chance to use the Herbert Richter mount at the track yet, but it looks to be the stiffest I have yet encountered. I am not familiar with the RAM Mount.
