It's july 2nd through the 4th so HURRY because it's filling up fast. I'll vouche for you on the instructor side of things and they may need to take a check ride with you on Friday. Friday is for the instructors only to learn the line and blow out the cobwebs so we'll get tons of quality track time.

The uphill section of the N course is SUPER FUN.

Well, got back from the MazdaDrivers event this past weekend. Personally I had a great time, but some other drivers gave it mixed reviews. Some of my notes:
It was hot. Very hot.
There was a pretty big mix of cars, and not a lot of Miatae. Nor was it dominated by Vettes like it was a couple years ago. Coolest car on the track? My vote goes for the red Ferrari 308gt4 running in the novice group.
It looked like they had issues with having a) lots of experienced drivers, b) lots of very novice drivers, and c) not many in the middle. A few fairly quick drivers got thrown down into the bottom two run groups where there were enough novices to where the trains formed quickly and were quite long and very slow. General irritation ensued.
I was in the yellow group (adv-intr) and found it a bit surprising when they told us "pass anywhere with a point". At other events I have been at (including other MazdaDrivers) this is usually reserved for the instructors and red groups, with yellow being given a more liberal choice of short straights. No big deal, but I just found it a little odd.
For the first time in 4 years, I forgot to check my hood pins before setting out. Almost made it to Turn-1 before the world went black. Thankfully the windshield wasn't damaged so I pulled off in a safe spot behind the T1 flag station, persuaded the aluminum hood back into some semblance of its former shape, pinned it back on and completed the rest of the session.
My next great challenge for the FC will be...... wiring!!! More specifically it will be figuring out why I have a current leak that drains the battery if I leave it hooked up and why I blew the dash "meter" fuse twice while out on the track. Wish me luck.

Just signed up for the Chin event at Watkins Glen, Sept. 6-7 (mon-tues). Can't wait.
Would love it if anybody wanted to join, but the following Fri-Sun is the vintage grand prix festival and race, so hotel space really close to the track will be limited. I'm staying at Granny's at this point, but might split w/ someone if they decide to come.

Peter, Josh (Silver7) and I are strongly considering the WGI/Chin event in September. I haven't been there in 5 years. Will let you know once it becomes official.

Is anyone contemplating the MazdaDrivers event on VIR Full Aug 28-29? Normally that a no-go for me b/c it falls on my anniversary weekend. But this year the wife is traveling on business that weekend, so I'm going to be available.
I think that event and possibly the 3-day FSR-PCA event (southx2 then full) in September will be it for me this year.

Anyone on here head up to Road Atlanta this past weekend for the NASA event?
I was there in spectator form and had a blast. Saw quite a few RX's... FB's, FC's (one with an LS1), FD's, and RX-8's. Some FAST rotaries for sure.

I was at Road Atlanta. I was with the RX8 guys(as well as the LS FC) in the motor home. I normally have a yellow or silver FD at events but I've been having transmission problems so the car was not there. Cam Worth and Pettit crew were down this weekend as well.

I was there as well for my first NASA event. I was in the gray FD. It was a blast meeting lots of rotary track addicts. Some really fast cars there as well. I can't wait till december.
Thanks again Brent for the help with my brakes. I am rebuilding the fronts with all new hardware, replacing the rotors, getting some good track pads. What are your opinions on the DBA slotted rotors? What's your choice for stock replacements? I don't see a blank DBA option. I am tearing the rears apart and see what's up with them. Blowing threw the lines etc.

Cool! I talked with Russ for a bit about his LS FC. Looked to be put together pretty well and gave me some good ideas about mine. Wished I could've talked longer and met more people but it looked like everyone was strapped for time as it was the end of the day.
