Ack! Help! GSL-SE Aluminum flywheel?
Alright.. I've run into a dilemna here, so maybe some of the racers will have seen this and be able to help me out..
I purchased a used AL flywheel setup that was thought to be from Racing Beat. Now the friction surface was worn down to the bolts, so that needed to be replaced. I ordered a new friction surface from RB and when I went to install it this morning I discovered that it doesn't fit.
Now what I need to know from you guys is, Who else makes AL flywheels for NA 13b? I pulled this flywheel directly off the block it used to be on, so I kow it' not the wrong wheel, but it's obviously not an RB wheel.
I snapped a bunch pf pictures of the flywheel and bothe new & old friction surfaces in hopes that someone here can help me figure out who mde this wheel. (no thre are no markings anywhere on it, I looked)
flywheel with old friction surface
RB new friction plate
Hmm, that's too big... Now what?
See the size difference between the two plates?
ah crap.. now what am I going to do? Off to the forum...

eh, I found my answer.. the flywheel I have is for the older 215mm clutch assemblies, not the 225mm assembly that I need... Unforunately I was told wrong...
Any of you 215mm clutch guys (pre-84) needing an AL Flywheel?
Shouldn't this work for a 12a or 13b if you have the right couterweight? Hell, I dunno... won't work on my car

yeah, apparantly they combined the two designs at some point in the past. They used to have a 215mm only and a separate 225mm only flywheel.
Now they've re-engineered them to have both accept the same friction surface.

any local machine shop should be able to duplicate the original friction disc(steel insert). a machinist friend of mine used an old brake rotor as donor material for his flywheel. should be a very simple job for a good machine shop.
