mazda6guy 12-15-07 08:47 PM

Wow man I love the race car. I see that all the hard work and late nights paid off in huge dividends for you. Your build really motivates me for my build project. Thanks!

Rota_Motor 01-03-08 05:52 AM

I followed this thread from a link on AusRotary.

hmm yes it does have PS. odd.

nice work on the build up BTW.

rob20rx7 01-03-08 08:08 AM

The Power Steering pump

Just for those who asked, Its a regular 3rd Gen PS Pump. We used the OEM Bracket and cut it up a bit and modefied it to make it fit around the sump cover. As for needed or not. it maybe adds another 10 pounds to the car but the steering feels great, especially when we are doing 2.5 hour enduros.

Thanks for the comments guys, We went racing on Dec 23rd and finished 5th overall. our fueling system killed us. we were in first and we lost 8 mins in the pitts both times trying to fill 22 gallons through 1/2 inch line

Dry break system is already in the workbooks for the march race, i will let you guys know how it goes.

Laterz

damn dude that is completely awesome and down to earth as well as user friendly, I bet you guys have one amazing fun time driving that car setup like that with such a wonderful chassis like the FD. mad props on the buildup, its amazing how far you made it in such a short timeframe and it looks amazing.

wow.

jacobcartmill 01-07-08 11:55 PM

so, is this oval track racing like nascar?

550rwhprex 01-09-08 08:35 AM

no its road racing...not circle track racing.. like scca, nasa, fara

slowmotion 01-09-08 10:32 PM

Thats a great car, I just got a 93 that I want to make a track car out of and your car gave me good ideas!

Peachey 01-10-08 05:07 AM

Comes up nice with the stickers. Do you have anymore videos?

rob20rx7 01-10-08 09:33 AM

Thank you for all your comments and support guys, from both the forum and Locals. The car is tons of fun to drive and still needs to dial in the set up a bit more. Im removing the suspension to send out to TIEN to have them re-valve and get new springs for the coil-overs. the set up it has now is way too soft and needs to be a little stiffer i belive. the rest is all little things that have to be attended to. The only part that is completely headace free is that motor. 2.5 hours Pulling strong and no bleeps. Again i have to give Kudos to CLR for set-up he has come up with.

prescription 7 01-15-08 11:16 AM

Good to hear man. Lets see some new vids of that beast and keep us posted!

gracer7-rx7 01-15-08 03:22 PM

Rob - Any idea on the sound levels you hit on track?

auricomXL 01-15-08 06:16 PM

this project looks absolutely awesome, I've only gone through the first few pages of posts, but i was wondering if you could give me any info on that clutch/brake peddal assembly you have installed? what is that piece of equipment called? who makes it?
thanks.

rob20rx7 01-15-08 06:30 PM

I dont know what the sound levels at the track are. But i can def. tell you that i have gotten no complaints! LOL . as for the pedal assembly, its made by tilton and its an overhand hung assembly for front and rear brakes and also clutch. you can find those at either hrpworld.com or at pegasusracing.com

Hope that helps

BigAl... 01-23-08 07:45 PM

For those of you who have been interested in this project, RoB and I will be starting my racecar project, which will be the sister car to this one. (Big Sister) wink wink.....

Next Phase! (JERICO 4 Speed Trans)

2 Attachment(s)
It has become apparent after 2 completed race events that the car needs a good competition Gearbox. I have opted to go with a JERICO 4 speed (Unless a 5 speed shows up) as the gearbox of choice. I will stay with the RX3 Bellhousing as this already has the Mazdaspeed Flyweel and clutch all set up. I have purchased the following adapter that we will begin to work off from. Next i need a Tranny.

mirabile 05-07-08 12:24 AM

Cant wait to see what happens with the new trans. Can you post pictures of the wing attachment to the carbon hatch?
Thanks.

rob20rx7 05-07-08 06:33 AM

Thats still a work in progress now. we have skined the rear hatch so we cant use it as a mounting point anymore. we will have to make brackets that come off the back of the car for the next race and we will be using a diff. wing

This is my next mod as well. Jerico makes a 5spd, but really the 4spd works quite well on PP 13B's. I'd recommend calling Tom @ 7's Only in Buttonwillow, CA - he builds the Mazda GT cars which all use 12A PP motors running the Jerico 4spd. He can probably get you a pretty decent price on it as well.

Rob,
what gear ratio you are going to use?
thanks for all the help.
CHE(el amigo de Carlos de Rep.Dom.)

rob20rx7 06-20-08 06:10 PM

i ended up having to go with a 5.14 because there was nothing higher that was closer to 5.40 which is where i needed to be.

jose-rs1 06-23-08 09:24 PM

You can get a 5.125 for your FD. talk to Carlos.
that way you don't have to go to all the trouble of changing everything
unless you are using it because the cobra dif. will make it more reliable.

jose-rs1 06-23-08 09:28 PM

there are also about 200 gear set for that tranny.
so can make any combination you want.
HRP has them.

rob20rx7 06-24-08 12:01 AM

I am aware that there is a 5.11 gear for the fd but it runs almost $900.00 i purchased the cobra rear end for 600 shipped with the axles and the 5.14 gear was 220.00 with the rebuild kit. I will have the complete set up done for less than what an FD gear cost. also i will be determining the final ratio to put in the gearbox this week so i can order the parts and get it together asap for the next race.

rob20rx7 06-24-08 12:09 AM

Jerico is Apart!

We tore down the gearbox this saturday and i will be deciding on what ratios to run with this week. it was a pretty simple task but i wont know exactly how simple until its all back together.

you forgot to add the craddle & driveshaft .
but you were going to have to change the FD oem posi anyway and those babies run a lot of dinero. the cobra posi can take much more than the FD.
I have heard about using a Turbo2 posi in the FD. is this true?

Good luck and keep posting

I have the FAL Poly carb rear window on the way and it should be here by mid next week. I should also have the brakes in by Friday.

Nice looking project. How much weight did you save with this hatch?
Thanks,
