Question 3rd gen track gurus, what turbos are you guys using??

Just want to see an opinion of what everyone is using. IF stock or single or whatever. I'm using the apex'i rx6 and wished I had gone bigger but oh well....

For auto-x, the stockers should be okay. I'm satisfied with them ... but I don't have another frame of reference. I rode with a guy with the same Apex'i RX6 turbo at the last event. He had a lot of trouble ... looped it at least half a dozen times; but, he wasn't a very good driver though.

You needing more top end for your track racing?

Since i'm always on top end rpm's it doesn't help to have a quick spooling turbo since i'm never below 4500rpms anyways...

Maybe you'd benefit from a hybrid twin setup ... not necessarily the GT35/40 upgrades that seems to be popular. But, maybe a twin set of T04's linked in parallel ... it would give you the top end pull that you're obviously looking for while not really penalizing you that badly in the low rpm range. Course, left-foot braking and toeing the gas will also help overcome the low rpm torque factor.

I took my T04S to Summit Point today and found the following:

I don't think I have enough cooling to run my street setting of 14 psi at a track - I might, but I didn't want to push it...

I ran 11 psi all day and my temps stayed around 95-105 C (normal mixed driving for me at _14_ psi on the street is 86-90 C)

Response was fine, I had no trouble with that on the track.. just keep the rpms where they belong and it's all good! Given that I had some potential cooling issues, I will say that something like an Apex or T04E would probably have been able to make similar power (at higher boost) with better response and not been any worse on the cooling system.

Anyhow, that's my 2 cents!

Brian
