Considering Costas kit but have some concerns about the piston sizing and placement. If the pistons are different sizes I want to make sure the bigger (less pressure piston) in on the bottom side of the caliper. Does that sound right? I think you want it like that to help with tapering on big pads correct?
Come on down Fritz! I could use some advise as how to juggle my students and TT. As stated; my first TT. The FSR thing is a definite for us! Cheers!

Trying to do a little planning so I'm not running around like a chicken with my head cut off(per the usual). It IS what we seem to do best. We always seem to have it covered between the two of us. "Almost" Racing! It only take a minute to do when you only have a minute
Fortunately for me you cover a lot of bases

No one has ever accused me of being organized

I'm looking forward to trying some As and I'll look into pricing today.

I may do it.

Just got word from Jon and the dyno will be there so no worries on not being in compliance.

Me and you both.

Seriously, if you do the March event and numbers are up so you can win some tires, you should look at getting a set of A6's. I'd bet they'd be good for 2 seconds. Well, it'll takes the first session(sticker run) to find the limit most of the time. I know it did for me. Probably only be a lap or two for you.

If not, you can ring my car out a session in May finally and see how you like the V8 and A6's.

1.8L? I'm curious what my 1.6L with drop-in, headers, exhaust, and cat delete will make. With 140Kmi on it, I'm betting somewhere between 90rwhp and 95rwhp. Should make for a good butt kicking in PTE versus the SMs when I have the FM Stage 2.5 suspension and not even real coilovers.

My plan for this year is to run a car, either car (or both!), and get at least my NASA license, if not my SCCA [reciprocal] license. Anything else will be gravy on top. I just hope the Miata isn't cursed like the RX7... because if it is... then maybe it's me and not the car. :-)

Mine is a 1.6. SM legalHeadwork will get a good compression motor to ~120 rwhp.
Headwork at http://www.haagperformance.com/ ~$1k
Could probably get more with a fancier non-SM compliant headwork.

Any head work in NASAs PT classes results in a dyno reclass. For $1k that's pretty close to a used 1.8 and a '99 head which should beat 120rwhp and have more torque. But that's really interesting to keep in mind with the 1.6.

Did you do a rebuild, too, or just the head work?

Haven't done anything to the motor other than timing belt and had it dyno tuned where the AFM and timing were adjusted. Its out of a '91 with 90k miles on it. Compression around 195 and consistent. Leakdown at 5% on exhaust valves as tested by Haag. Once my lap times improve 3-4 seconds a lap, I'll be able to make better use of a "pro" head or pro motor. Hopefully in the off-season at the end of this season.

the 99 motor is nice. Makes good power and torque. Can probably do 130 or so on that motor w/o the SM restrictions. My bud is putting down 120 rwhp on the same dyno, same day w/ a restrictor plate in SM trim.

You know I'd love to give the FDV8 a try for sure

My car dynoed really well with the new turbo 333 at 10 psi and bleeding down to like spring pressure or 8psi can't lower the boost anymore. The last time it was 326 with more boost so I'm just over the power to weight for TTS especially after removing the carpet etc... to shave weight and I refuse to put weight back in the car. PFS/Ray kept the A/F at about 11 and didn't change the timing so it's basically just going with a nice new turbo that has bigger back side AR (1.15 versus 1.0)

At least there are lots of cars running in TTU but I'm going to get my *** WHIPPED big time OUCH!!!!

Motivation to get cage put in to add some weight

So you're saying you need more power? So you can be more competitive in TTU of course. Glad to hear it went well.

I'd say we should check out the NARRA event at VIR, but it's like 06-08 July. If we do the UTCC again, that'd be two HOT July weekends. Don't know about that.

No I won't run more than 350 rwhp no matter what. I was just talking about this weekend which I decided to bail on anyway. Too many problems with alignment, tires, brakes you name it. NOthing came together easily.

I'll either have Werkstatt (local porsche shop) put a cage in or take it up to Piper to have a cage installed and that should add 100lbs or so and the car will easily fit into TTS.

Both of those events sound like winners. I don't mind the heat too much but the car isn't as happy about it lol.

At "Almost racing" the driver can ALMOST make up for anything (anything being a list of excuses that make Santa's list look like a post it note) LOL

Tranny

Well....rebuilt tranny "chit the bed" Friday on the last practice run before my first time trial @ VIR/NASA. Jeff Curtis was kind enough to give me a "hall pass" on instructing this weekend so I could go home and cook breakfast for our B&B guests. Fritz....have a 99' spec tranny handy? Maybe a 4.3 diff (since mine is whining when I lift)? Race it, Break it, Fix it, REPEAT.

Sorry to hear about the trans. What are the details and how much power is your car making now?

I have some good regular transmission but none w/ the lower 5th gear.

Check w/ Japan2la and see if he has any good JDMs laying around. He should also have a 4.3 diff

Never got it Dyno'd. Was gonna try and get on the dyno after that session. I don't think he was set up earlier in the day. Thanks Fritz. If Brian doesn't have one; I'll give you a shout. Would rather give you the business if I could. You put that JDM tranny in your car didn't you? The one you brought to the track for me last year? LMAO; funny how chit goes around. I have a dyno sheet from 2 years ago that had mine @ 342 whp. I don't think it's making that now...maybe 325? Only the Dyno will tell. Hope to get it together by March. I'm signed up for TT again w/NASA.

Did the trans give up on the top side of 3rd gear?

Yep the one you didn't need is now in my car so glad you didn't need it

I should of kept my ST kit but I think I have my brake situation resolved. I had coleman racing attach my hats to their rotors and they didn't properly torque them.

I have nice quiet 94 trans 400 and I still have the low mileage 93 trans (8k miles) but it'll cost you 700.

Your car is pretty heavy so hopefully it's still making 340s for you.

My car is a beast right now. 333 at like 8 or 9 psi

I think the whole shootin match came loose on the inside...reverse and 5th are one in the same. Sounds like two rats fighting over a chicken bone..LOL. Good news is ..My brakes are great. The stoptech was the ticket for me. japan2la doesn't have a 4.3 diff, but he has several gear boxes. Which series has the lower 5th gear?
Your car was a beast last year. I hear you contemplating a full cage...DO IT! Anyone doing the lap times you are should have one. That will be my project for next winter if I can keep this "hanger queen" running; and I'm not even close to you, Brent and Pete. How many miles are on the 94' tranny? Another question; if I keep my 4.3 diff and run your 94' gear box; would that give me a decent compromise and still allow me to get a good part of 5th gear in the back straight @ VIR? Thanks, Dave

The 4.3 is a big help. The trans isn't that big of a deal.

I think most of the JDM models have the 5th but there might be more than one lower ratio so I'd go with the lowest/shortest he has.

The 94 trans has 97k miles but the 5th is good and it's quiet. I don't know the history on it.
