just a general question re: seller FAQ

just reading over the sticky, why does it say sellers should not to ask buyer to pay for paypal fees? lol.

it's not unfair to ask the buyer to cover the fee based on how they pay.

example, if the paypal payment is made via bank or debit card there is no fee. if the payment via paypal has funds from a credit card, there IS a 2.9% + 30 cent fee. i believe other paypal accounts, like mine, charge the fee either way!

not too unreasonable for this fee be covered by the buyer, since the buyer has the option of not asking the seller to incur the fee by sending a check/money order. which not only slows down the process but may add even more $$ to the buyer's expense.. money orders/cashier checks aren't always available from a buyer's bank free of charge.

the most important thing is that the seller isn't forcing the buyer to buy the product, its not like getting a surprise bill in the mail a week later saying "hey by the way you owe me $3.30 or i will send a bill collector to your door!". its like hey, this is $100 and if you pay such and such way thru paypal u owe me $3 more. at which point the buyer can be like "daaaamn, well i can't afford that, sorry i can't buy your product sir" and its like. no problem.

It is against the paypal user agreement for a seller to ask the buyer to cover the paypal fees. That is why its frowned upon here. That being said, the seller IS allowed to include the fees to the price they want for the part,, but it should be done before a price is agreed upon.
