Thumbs down I bought a laptop from Osirus9.

I bought this from Osirus9 (Travis) The guy has been cool and has replied to all my emails.
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=610790

Since I will be running Megasquirt on my RX-7 I purchased this laptop for that purpose. I figured it would be a good buy even though he's a newbie, he is local and I could pick it up. We set up a time for me to pick it up. He wasn't able to make it, but his Mom was nice enough to be there to handle the transaction. Very nice lady. I didn't have time to play with it since I had to go to Connecticut for the week the next morning, so I charged it and started it up. Looked ok. When I got back from Connecticut I started it up to load my megasquirt and my photoshop documents. I did that and restarted it. That's the last of it. Blue screen with errors.

I contacted osirus9 to let him know. I didn't get any recovery disks, so I tried the one from my work and nothing. I'm not a computer geek, so I contacted the manufacturer and I paid $26 for them to send me the recovery disks. I got them today and tried running them. Nothing. So I contacted the manufacturers support and we did some troubleshooting. Ends up the hard drive is faulty. I brought it to my IT guy at work and he confirmed it.

So basically I paid $325 to waste time and get frustrated. Then paid another $26 to waste more time and get even more frustrated. And i'm not about to buy a hd to find out if anything else is wrong.

Lesson learned I guess.

I never said it was the sellers fault. I'm just stating what happened. Although the seller is offering to replace this one with another one he has or try to fix this one. I will probably take him up on that.

I'm not blaming the seller. I'm just frustrated that I got this thing and I haven't even used it and it's broken. Things happen and like you said "it was working when I got it"

The seller feels bad about my situation and he is willing to help me fix it. This is very stand up of him.

Thanks guys I will let you know what happens.

I really cant blame kim for posting here at all. Also the blame on whose fault this all is isn't clear at all, it could be mine for getting a bad HDD in the first place, but in my defense it worked just fine when i used it. but whose fault it is isn't even really relevant at this point because the fact is the thing broke. these things just happen i suppose. I've done all i can to get this thing working through email, but its just not the same as actually being there. so I've done everything in my power to help her get this thing running. and she has put up with this whole situation without becoming angry with me and demanding money back, or accusing me of scamming her. so... i suppose this is the best possible handling for the worst possible situation.

as long as it uses a 2.5" drive and the same connector, they haven't stopped making drives for it.

as far as i know, unless it is a mac(don't know, never opened one up), all laptops use the same connectors. a 2.5" drive is about 80-90$ CAD for an 80GB drive.

yeah, just buy any 2.5" hard drive, if the laptop has an old motherboard, just to be safe, buy the ATA100 hard drives, if you know the motherboard supports ATA133 then you could buy an ATA133 hard drive. No big difference, just the ATA133 has a faster transfer speed, hope this helps

Kim would not do that. She is just stating what has happened and approaching it in a professional and mature manner. So don't mess with my buddy Kim.

Hi doc!

Yeah I 'm not trying to discredit him. Travis is a good guy. And he has been nothing but top notch with helping me trying to resolve this. I wish someone would buy his car so he can pick up an RX-7. We need more RX-7 people here in the Chicago area.

Update:
The manufacturer contacted me and they decided to be nice enough and send me a hard drive. That decicion was made because they would rather keep me as a customer. I am very surprised that they are going to do that. On top of that Osirus9 offered to format and install it for me. So once I get the hd, I will drop it off to him. Good stuff there.

awesome =D glad things worked out for you.

i guess the manufacturer saw that the 15$ they would have to spend on the HDD was less important than losing a customer.

Yes, but the mood of her post does seem negative, what with the whole thumbsdown in the topic and everything . I can definitly see where someone would take this as a negative feedback post, especially if they don't open and read it (I know I usually just browse the topics when searching for someones credibility). Just the way I took the post when I first came across it, might want to consider changing something up with it?

Thumbs up

You do have a point there. And I was a little frustrated when I typed it. I'll see if I can get it changed.

BTW, my new hard drive arrived. Damn that was fast. They sent it next day air. Talk about good service. I guess it would be because of all the competition. But that is great service for a laptop that is not under warranty.

Wouldn't hurt to try Nick..

Another update:
Installed, formated and partitioned the new hard drive. Loaded xp pro and the drivers. Loaded my megasquirt and other stuff and it's working beautifully. Set up my wireless network and i'm on it now. Now I can put in my rotary stickers all over it for better performance

Now I can start playing with setting up the ecu. Fun, fun, fun..

Ohh WTF!

What part does it sound like i'm bagging him? The part that I apologized for comming on strong? Or the part that I said that he is a good guy? Maybe it's the part that I mentioned about it's not his fault? Come on guy, read what he posted, as a matter of fact read the whole thread if your going to post an opinion.
