Ok, so I've been doing a lot of searching on the subject, and I'm getting lots of conflicting information. I recently purchased a PFC, and have a few questions. Will the base tune be ok to run on 11-12 psi with a walbro 255 fuel pump? Some people say yes, some say no...I'd like to hear the arguments. I've got a full exhaust with midpipe/downpipe, and greddy airinx intakes. I haven't been driving the car because I wanted to wait until I get the PFC installed, and feared it may lean out on the stock ECU. Ultimately, I will get the PFC professionally tuned at KDR, but I want to know if it's going to be "safe" to drive for now on the base tune.

So other than that are there any special installation procedures for installing the PFC? I'd imagine just disconnect the battery, remove the passenger kick panel, unplug old ECU and install new one, correct? (Provided the new one is correct...I've heard horror stories of the wrong ECU as well)

Any reason you want to stick with the stock tune? You can afford a PFC, but don't want to spend the extra $$ to get it running as good as it can?

 

12 isn't a problem. The stock PFC map is pretty rich, with a good bit of retarded timing.

 

Install a wideband.

In my experience you'll be past 85% duty cycle.

 

No, I don't want to stick with the stock tune...I just wanted to know if it'd be safe for the time being. I mentioned in my first post that I will ultimately have it professionally tuned by KDR in PA.

Also, am I on the right track as far as the install goes? Just disconnect battery, disconnect old ECU, connect PFC, reconnect battery, and turn the key?

 

From the many dynos I have done the stock base map A/F is actually in the low 11's and dipping into the high 10's over 7k RPM. Only thing that needs adjustment is the timing. With a full exhaust I usually add a little fuel up top.
