Power FC tuning timing

tuning timing

When tuning is a safe base map going to be fine for boost also? I am having a hard time finding a place to tune my powerfc. I can get the fuel map safe, but I am not sure on timing. If the timing map is safe for normal driving, does it need tuned as well? I will wait till I can meet a tuner if necessary, but if I can just get the fuel safe and be good to drive in boost it would be much easier.

For safe boosting.......................................... ....... use 1 degree of negative timing for every lb of extra boost you use over stock settings(boost) ,as well you should increase your fuel pressure 1 lb as well...to compensate for the extra air...................................PS NEVER...... advance a rotary engine's timing... EVER......................Good luck

To start with, is it pretty safe to just use a 15 degree split on the trailing ignition? I know it isn't optimal for power, just looking to get into the boost safely.

15 split is a conservative starting point and then you can try different numbers later like 12, 10, whatever

The pfc base timing maps are just fine, no need to worry about them, I ran them for years without changing anything till about a year ago. If you want to be more safe change the trailing map to increase the timing split to 12 in the boost rows.

So how do you know when you need to change timing for safety reasons? If you are logging and show enough fuel for the boost areas but still get detonation, do you just retard the timing in those areas of the map?

Datalogging with a wideband and not running lean, but too much knock, then ya retard the timing some. Although I never had to do that.
