You have the classic symptoms of version incompatibility. Apex'i revised the PowerFC ECU (e.g. 2.0x and 5.0x) multiple times, and each version of the ECU requires its own commander. Thus, either you or your friend has an older PowerFC ECU. If your friend has the older one, you will only be able to use a commander that is compatible with the newer version ECU (vice versa, if you have the older version). Therefore, you must purchase a commander or borrow from another friend who has the same version ECU as you.

Plug it back into your friend's ECU and see what version number comes up. If he has a 2.0x then it is highly probable that you have a 5.0x ECU. Obviously, if he has a newer 5.0x, then you will likely have the older version.

From my own "research" I found that the older 2.0x ECU (Model# 414-Z002) corresponds to the commander model# 415-Z001. The newer 5.0x ECU (Model# 414-Z004) corresponds to the commander model# 415-Z002.
I'm fairly sure that this is correct, and I hope this helps.

There's actually 3 types of Commander available according to my book that came with mine.

414-Z001 is for '95-98 5-Speed FD3S
414-Z002 is for '91-95 5-Speed FD3S
414-Z003 is for '98+ 5-Speed FD3S w/ 280ps

Also, I have the Z001 Commander and the v2.0x ECU.

You tie into a thread over one year old, and use it to try to sell your commander.

This thread should be locked and you need to learn how to properly use a forum.
