MN Timing Map Opinion

Here is my current timing maps. I am having pretty good results with this now. The only spots that I am having issues are after 7K RPM, it just flat lines. And under boost in cells P16 N10 I have what I would describe as a slight cut in power almost like a cough, but then it smooths out.

I guess what I am trying to figure out is that I have seen alot of people with no where NEAR the amount of advancement in the Leading maps and wondering if I am doing something completely wrong here. I don't have any pinging at these numbers.

I was using the TPS IGL advancement feature just to kind of get an idea from throttle position what my timing would be able to handle in the higher RPM's. I am not looking for internet tuning, just wondering if I am WAYYYY off or not.

Thanks for the read.

Mitch

The timing is so advanced for boost compared to stock, it is a wonder you have not blown yet at higher boost.
And too many P rows have the same timing.
I would be scared to drive this car under 10+ psi boost!

Timing should advance after peak torque and at a faster rate then it did leading up to peak torque.

It is best to download the complete map and post it. This allows seeing the MAP REF setup and other data.

Here is the map sir.

Your reply sounds rather grim

despite the fact the numbers are apperently F*ed it does scoot pretty good. But I definently want to make it right, and safe.

Thanks

put the Apex'i default leading timing map back in. then go into your IGT split screen and set split to 12 or 15 for the P16 - P20 rows. That would take 5 minutes and be much safer than what you have.

Something like this here.

What is the reason for having the split so far apart under boost like that? The calculator program does it for you that way, but why?

Because knock usually occurs in the trailing portion of the combustion chamber:

You don't HAVE to have that much split, but that's about how much Mazda runs from the factory. There's no one single correct way of doing timing maps but IMO if you want safety, increasing split helps a lot while not costing too much power.

it is a wonder that your engine is still in one piece after 27 degrees timing under load.....

And
yet it is... Defies all logic.

After further tuning I'm coming to terms that I could have a weak spark. My next upgrade is the twin power to give the old girl some more juice.

I agree, I have been working off of the factory map and it is running considerably well off of a less aggressive timing map. I keep thinking that I am not getting the strong spark that is needed to run the engine. I have never been able to run the car at full throttle from 5K to redline due to sputtering issues.

Planning on re-tuning after I get the twin power.
