Is it safe to buy a used power fc?

Is it safe to buy a used (tuned) power fc? I'm really just looking for the base maps for an intake, downpipe, and exhaust, nothing fancy. Is it possible to reset the power fc to default (base) settings or is the base map lost once it has been tuned?

I bought one used and have used it on 2 different cars. I do have a wideband though to track AFRs. You can reset the PFC and it will revert to the original maps installed, either the base maps or base mod maps. There are some negative splits you need to correct. I noticed on one vehicle when the maps were reset that the AFRs were very safe under boost. The PFC seems to model Mazda target values.

I bought mine on ebay from Japan and it works just as well as a new PFC.

Just make sure you look to see that the ECU is a 11/91-12/95 or whatever. Make sure it is the right ECU for the model year, Mazda changed ECUs later on, but all US FDs use the older style ECU.
